Utusan let off with ministry warning

Najib had been urged to take strong action against Utusan Malaysia. — file pic

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The Home Ministry has slapped Utusan Malaysia with a warning letter for publishing an unsubstantiated front-page article alleging a Christian plot to usurp Islam as the religion of the federation, which sparked a furore among the country’s majority Muslims and minority Christians.

The ministry today issued a statement that the editor-in-chief of the Umno-owned newspaper, Datuk Aziz Ishak, has been invited to the ministry to explain the daily’s violation of the Printing Presses and Publishing Act 1984.

The Malaysian Insider learnt he went to the ministry in Putrajaya at 4pm with another senior editor.

On Saturday, Utusan Malaysia carried a front-page article headlined “Kristian agama rasmi?” (Christianity the official religion?), claiming the DAP was conspiring with Christian leaders to take over Putrajaya and abolish Islam as the religion of the federation.

The report, based entirely on unsubstantiated blog postings by two pro-Umno bloggers, charged DAP with sedition for allegedly trying to change the country’s laws to allow a Christian prime minister.

Yesterday, the Penang government filed a formal complaint to the Home Ministry demanding stern action against Utusan Malaysia over the report.

In the complaint, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng sought for Prime Minister Najib Razak to act sternly against the Malay daily to prove that the newspaper does not enjoy full legal immunity.

Today, Lim took the matter further when he called on Najib to axe the Utusan Malaysia editors and reporters responsible for the “false report”.

Najib was also forced today to meet with the church leaders over the issue, after which the prime minister said he was pleased the church leaders had pledged to respect Islam’s position as the religion of the federation.

According to Najib, the church leaders also said Christians had no desire to challenge the provision within the Federal Constitution.

Najib did not, however, offer an apology for the report by his party’s mouthpiece.

Reexamining Tony- the "god-fearing Christian" ......

If asked if I am a godfearing Christian, I would readily admit to it.
I have been attending Cathechism (for Catholics) since I was
old enough to read, and would be at best, an average Catholic.....
Therefore, IMHO, the Church should keep out of politics, and the Politicians too should keep out of churches (if they want to preach) fulfilling one's religious duties is a different matter.
The church is the house of god, and please keep god in mind,
not DAP, or PR, BN or UMNO!
-Tony Yew, Church in Politics or Politics in Church?

******************************

Big Dog has gone to town with his pack of lies in his blogpost- Rampas kedudukan Islam wujud?.

Never mind the Dog- I'm more interested in the misguided, "god-fearing" Tony Yew who has a very peculiar brand of "spirituality" here. FYI- Tony is now BigDog's "Christian" poster-boy .... according to the lying BigDog, apparently, "even the Non Malays/Muslims are complaining of this unhealthy trend."

Tony Yew blames the lies by “Big Dog” and Utusan Malaysia's inflammatory headlines on “civil activism” ….. i.e. Fr. Paulino standing up for the persecution of ISA detainees, Fr. OC Lim's prayer for the Supremacy of the Federal Constitution (& the cessation of the subtle religious persecutions which have been taking place) and even YB Khalid, Teresa Kok and Haris Ibrahim for disputing Perkasa's stand that he's is a second-class citizen in “his church”!!

He calls himself a "devout Christian". That's fine by me.....

However, he believes that those fighting for justice are to be blamed for the deceit propagated by the government. He believes that explaining the political persecution faced by the rakyat, and defending the weak, “corrupts” his spirituality ….In other words, he believes that the free expression of dissent, is the cause of deceitful propaganda, persecution, or tyranny!!!

That means- these social evils are there, simply because you objected to it!!! I don't think things can get any more twisted than that ... ("Tony- what you smokin', bro? Care to share?)

He condemned those pastors who made statements in support of social justice in church. He condemned those who have gone out on the street to protest against the tyranny against another fellow human being. He believes that Church is supposed to be the "House of God"/ House of Prayer" , and pastors should just be parrots who rattle out incoherently pretending that they are "serving God", and nothing else.

Now let's examine the premises upon which he built that high pedestal (the “god-fearing Christian”) upon which he has placed himself ….

Is Tony Yew saying that it was an "unChristian" thing to do, when Fr. Paulino walked in protest against the evil of ISA? Or when Haris refused to agree that he was a “second-class citizen”? Or when Khalid came around speaking justice? Or when Fr. OC Lim prayed for the Supremacy of the Federal Constitution?
Does he think it is a very Christian thing to turn a blind eye to social injustice?
I can almost hear him say, "Oh, but this is different- as priests, their job is to just conduct masses, do the confessions & indulge in the rituals for the benefit of the church to go on worshiping in peace. And politicians should come around speaking to their electorate in “my church”, because it is the House of God"

Tony, I don't mean to be judgmental- but just maybe, you need to reexamine your "faith" as described in your post. Please get to know of the difference between "religiosity" & "spirituality". Look it up, mate.
From what you've written, your definition of "Christianity" and "Church" is actually limited to the definition of the religiosity- which is exactly what people like the Big Dog (and his political masters) would like you to believe, being "god-fearing" is all about.
(Just go & ask the Perkasa types, Tony- they'll tell you that you're on the right track in your faith!!)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Is spirituality a part of religion or distinct from it?
Is it impossible to be spiritual without being religious?
Conversely, is it possible to be religious without being spiritual?
Spirituality may be broadly defined as personal relationship
of an individual to a state of mind,
being or place outside of the experience of our five senses.
And it emphasizes a deeper understanding of life and the sacred.

For most Christians, spirituality involves developing
a personal relationship and experience with Jesus Christ
through prayer, meditation, or Bible reading.

However, this is a narrow definition of spirituality
because it does not make any references to life,
as if Christians live in a vacuum.
In other words, what is missing from the definition
is the element of practicality---
how one lives one’s spiritual life in a sociological world characterized
with a web of relationships and interrelationships with people.

~Religiosity vs. Spirituality

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It appears that his "spirituality" is limited to parroting words (poetically into pretty little prayers) and the rituals associated with it. (I cannot be certain, but) he appears to believe that being a "god-fearing Christian" means, that he should as a "catholic" only entails in reciting prayers, making donations to church, indulging in penances/rituals and "being peacefully apathetic" to the social injustices that takes place around him. (It reminds me of someone I once knew back in my younger days, who used to go to temple & roll on the ground in penance- then go back to her slutty ways the very next day.... ha ha!)

BUT- he want a nice building for church, in a nice location, and processions to parade his faith to the world..... and we should be very hush-hush in church, unless we wish to bribe God for favours or maybe indulge in some spiritual masturbation which would result in "peace". Maybe he even believes that if not for the building where he goes to indulge in his religiosity, his God would end up being homeless on the streets. Probably plenty of bling-blings added to the architecture of the church would make his god sleep better & even strengthen Tony Yews faith too.

Just sharing, Tony – I don't believe that when Jesus said “I am the truth, way & the life”, he meant it about him physically- but the spirit & the values he stood for. No amount of worshipping him would mean anything, if you did not get that part right. Please know that there is such a thing called “extra-ordinary salvation”.

This is my perspective spirituality & true worship ...
You cannot just do it in church- God doesn't need your prayers, offering/bribe of your 10sen, nor your judgements on values preached in the homily. God doesn't need that.
True worship, is when you can translate the values which you are supposed to believe in, to your daily life. True worship is when you work with anyone who believes in "Universal values". True worship is when you are willing to die for a friend- and there can be no greater love than this.
Anything less, and you'd fall short in the spirituality which was preached by Jesus. You'd be nothing more than the Pharisee who dressed in garbs, indulged in rituals, ignored social justice .... And remember- they too, condemned Jesus for his activism for social justice ....

To me, I believe that the doctrine of "separation of state & religion" is confined to partisan politics & Government. I believe that it is imperative that we (more so the church leaders) support social justice in word & deed (transcending partisan politics) to be conscientious Christians- not just parrot prayers or dance around town in a procession/freak-show, to grease your ego.

One is being hypocritical at best, when one tries to project that he is a "faithful Catholic"- and yet deplore the church's demand for social justice & Constitutional religious rights.
I find it strange that your "spirituality" ignores the need for efforts towards educating the people on social justice. Worse still, you even go to the extent of condemning the shepherds who do their Christian duty in guiding their flock on the morality of it all.
Instead, you are more interested in a procession around Shah Alam to parade to the world your faith, while you ignore your moral obligation to share the pains which your brothers suffer.

If you were to ask me, going by Tony's standards, I don't think I'd categorize myself as much of a "god-fearing Christian"- not by a long shot, bro! I don't place much premium on the dogma/rituals attached to religiosity.
It is nice to know though, that you have such confidence in your faith.

Take care.

Fat Dog, Utusan Issue:- Quotable Quotes

“The blogger known as Big Dog who happily did his ridiculous spin about DAP and Christians and has to date got away scot free,
seems to be barking to the tune of his political masters.

He and Marahku (allegedly Shamsul Yunos)
lit a seditious spark of venomous hatred with their articles
that were carried by Utusan Malaysia......
Big Dog, aka Zakhir Mohamed is the same blogger who published RPK's June 2008 SD in his blog which got RPK in trouble with the police.
The big unanswered question is how he got hold of that SD when
it was sent to the Altantuya murder prosecutors.....

WHO LET BIG DOG OUT?
Who gave him the license to write such seditious material
and remain scot-free?

And why?”
~ Rottweiler, MT

"Was Utusan suggesting that the rulers are out of mind and unable to protect the provisions? So who is actually in charge? PM or Utusan? 1Malaysia or 1Melayu?
"In short, actions - both civil and criminal - may be taken against Utusan. There are provisions in the Sedition Act 1948, Printing Presses Act 1984 (publishing false news) and even the Penal Code for the purpose,"
-Prof Aziz Bari

"I deny all the allegations by Utusan Malaysia and BigDog but I believe (in) the coincidence that as May 13 draws nearer, the duo has (tried to) spark these anti-Chinese sentiments by bringing up the issue of May 13 and by hurling accusations that my party is Chinese chauvinistic.
“(They are) malicious and should be investigated under Penal Code section 499 (for defamation)".
~ YB Jeff Ooi

“Curiously the government seem to be taking the Umno-owned Malay daily's report at face value, despite the report being based on unsubstantiated tales published on Umno-friendly blogs.
Information, Culture and Communication Minister Rais Yatim (left) has warned errant parties not to trifle with the special position of Islam and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is quoted as saying that he viewed the "Christian agenda" as serious.

~ Malaysia Kini on Umno, Anak Yatim & Onn Jaafar's grandson.

“On behalf of the Catholic Bishops of Malaysia, I would like to categorically refute the allegation that such a meeting had taken place or will take place in a Catholic venue in Penang"
~ Archbishop Murphy Pakiam

“Instead of dealing with the obvious causes of their sinking popularity, like widespread corruption, racism and intolerable economic inequities in society, they engage in witch-hunts against assorted scapegoats …...

It appears their flavour of the month is the Christians whom these scaremongers have rounded on and perhaps now regard as a soft target,”
~ Bishop Paul Tan, President of Council of Bishops.

“If Umno had taken care of (the practice of) Islam well and strengthened it, I believe and am convinced that such speculations (by Utusan) of moves to make Christianity the official religion of the nation would not have arisen.
“At the same time, Muslims would feel at peace and comfortable with practising their religion,” ~Nasrudin, PAS Youth Leader.

Utusan's lies:- Joint Statement by the Christian Pastors

Joint Statement by the Christian Pastors of Penang with Penang Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng

by CM Lim Guan Eng on Monday, 09 May 2011 at 14:57

Joint Statement by the Christian Pastors of Penang with Penang Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng at Komtar, Penang 9th May 2011

  1. DAP and the Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng have never asked Christian Pastors to pray to seek God’s divine intervention to establish Malaysia as a Christian state or have a Christian Prime Minister.

2. Christian Pastors and Churches have always prayed for blessings for the nation, peace and well-being, unity and harmony amongst all races as well as a leadership that is honest and just.

3. Christian Pastors and Churches are aggrieved that such outright lies can be published in the mass media. We sincerely and strongly urge the Prime Minister and Home Minister to take action against Utusan Malaysia for printing and spreading such dangerous lies that have disturbed the multi-religious harmony of society, created fear and uneasiness amongst Malaysians, especially Christians.

4. We express grave concern that Utusan Malaysia is spreading dangerous lies that make Christians the object of hate and incite hatred against Christians that may lead to undesirable consequences.

5. The Chief Minister of Penang will continue to meet with Christian leaders, Bishops or Pastors just as he meets with Muslim clerics, Buddhist or Hindu monks in line with Mr. Lim Guan Eng’s duties as the Chief Minister.

Are Umno/BN, Utusan PDRM & "fat-dog" Shaming Malays ?

menerusi entri bertajuk 'Making Christianity the official religion?
dan blog Marahku di http://marahku.blogspot.com.

~ Malaysia negara Kristian? (Utusan Malaysia Headlines ..... 7/5/11)
Amongst the interesting moments that was said during the evening do was when the 35 pastors stood in a circle and said to have taken a vow to make Christian the official religion of the Federation of Malaysia and the Prime Minister also a Christian.
~ The Fat Dog.

(With the country going to the dogs, and Islam being shown in bad light by these guys-
I would not be too surprised if they did pray for that.
As a matter of fact, I too would pray for that- and so what if I did? Is that illegal?
They didn't rob you of some lard from your waistline did they, "fat dog"?)

1. When I read about Utusan Malaysia headlines about "Christianity-the official religion?", i felt puked. Then the worse thing happened last night when TV3 sought comments from Hishamuddin where he remarked that it is a serious issue implying that the report is true. In a long segment, the views of PERKASA, PEMBELA AND the DIGP was sought and played up to reinforced that the purported meeting did take place and it is true.

2. The action by UTUSAN is damn irresponsible.TV3 is probably far more guilty. The two media has a large Malay rural/semi urban following that could distort public perception. It is clear to me that the action is seditious and is done with the intention of creating an uprising in this country. It is my expectation that the police takes immediate action against the editors and Hishamuddin. He is the internal security minister and should appreciate the issue and do not politicize it.It is unfortunate that the top brass of the RMP has spine that is made of jelly when it comes to enforcing the law.

3. Does the RMP intent to wait for the problems to worsen before going into action? Only the government and it's official tongue has the freedom to wag just because of politics. They are willing to sacrifice everything just to ensure that the fence sitters will support them.

4. I am one of the many fence sitters. On many occasion I felt I should give BN my votes in the next GE but then off late, the action or inaction of this irresponsible government has reinforced my believe that it is time that they go. No political party deserved to be in power for stooping so low. I wonder why isn't MCA or MIC and other component parties in BN take action to control UMNO and it's media channel. For the first time I called upon NON UMNO component party in BN to place the best interest of the country and push UMNO into doing the right thing. Don't wait until it is too late. I urged the level headed Muslims take center stage and control the extremist within our fold.

Say what you like Jala- The whole thing just stinks!!

May 06, 2011
Jala’s agency commissioned double-page advertorials on the MyEmail project in major newspapers today. — file pice
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) today demanded the government explain why public funds were spent to buy newspaper advertorials defending the 1 Malaysia email project when it was a private initiative.

A two-page advertorial headlined “Truths and Lies about MyEmail” by the Performance Management & Delivery Unit (Pemandu) on the controversial project was published in major newspapers today.

“If it’s a private initiative, then obviously advertisements and [efforts] pushing for its use should be done by the private company, instead of the government,” Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad told The Malaysian Insider today.

“If it’s private, (there) shouldn’t be anything (that’s) spent by the government. To me, it’s propaganda,” the PAS central political bureau member added.

Khalid said Tricubes ought to be the ones promoting its own project. — file pic
DAP publicity chief Tony Pua similarly denounced Pemandu’s advertorial.

“I think it has come to a really silly stage where the government is spending tens of thousands in advertorials to defend a so-called private initiative because ‘Pemandu believes in integrity and transparency’,” said Pua.

“If that’s really the case, then just disclose the request for proposal (RFP) documents from the government as well as the full contract terms and letter of award given to Tricubes. Publish them online and save the tens of thousands of tax-payers’ money,” the Petaling Jaya Utara MP added.

Pemandu refused to divulge the cost of the advertorial when questioned by The Malaysian Insider today.

“We have answered your question... I have nothing to add,” Pemandu corporate communication chief Ku Kok Peng told The Malaysian Insider on the phone.

Pemandu also emailed a statement to The Malaysian Insider and said it commissioned the advertorials to “make sure that the general public is not misinformed by people who distort the truth.”

In the advertorial, Pemandu CEO Senator Datuk Seri Idris Jala said Tricubes Bhd would invest 100 per cent of the RM50 million MyEmail project that was conceptualised as an Entry Point Project (EPP) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

Jala also stressed that the government “will not spend a single sen” in the project’s investment and operating costs.

“On the other hand, it is estimated that the government stands to save at least RM200 million over 10 years,” he said.

He explained that government agencies would make savings of almost 50 per cent by paying 50 sen per email to myemail.my accounts, as government agencies currently paid up to RM1 per mail and RM2 for each returned hardcopy correspondence.

Pua pointed out government agencies should instead encourage the public to register their own email accounts.

“Now you’re paying 50 sen to someone else to send it [electronically]. Why not send it to (email) addresses provided by people and save the entire RM1?” asked Pua.

Pua said the 50 sen per email charge can be avoided entirely. — file pic
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar agreed that Tricubes should be the one promoting the project, instead of Pemandu.

“Pemandu has had a horrible track record with regards to disclosing accurate information about their ongoing initiatives.

Smells of rotten bailout if you ask me,” said Nurul Izzah in a text message to The Malaysian Insider.

“I don’t want to engage Wong Ho Leng”?! Wake up, Anwar!!

"Within the three parties in the coalition, PKR wants to be the master and only what its leader says or instructs are valid. DAP suggest a merger with SNAP and without giving it a second thought was immediately rejected by PKR, the master."
-Malaysia for All, "Poll: Is PKR an Umno Clone?"

*********************************
"The Master" has spoken - so is has been said, so it shall be done!"

All one can say is WOW!!
So now, all you second-class members of the Pakatan Rakyat had better take heed of what "the Master" says.
He also went on to say, “Let them go to Ba’kalalan and look at the terrain there, what people read”.

Nobody said that things would be easy- especially when you're the "Johnny come lately" in Sarawak. We know you wanted to show that you could do it for the long run- that's fine.
When DAP wanted more seats, you refused to concede- even though you knew that it could mean weakening the opposition as a whole. Maybe it was brave, maybe visionary, maybe strategic, maybe bodoh-sombong ....
With your resources stretched thin and all the court cases hampering your progress/focus, you knew you'd lose most seats, and yet you persevered- that's courageous & good. So we went along.
So, isn't that what you bargained for?

Why then are you being sour grapes about being in the minority of the Opposition, Anwar? Why can't you engage with your own ally, just because you failed miserably with your bodoh-sombong strategy, and you're now a minority?
Suddenly Umno's supremacist sectarian/race politics is more important than good-governance and forward planning?

Is it your "Ketuanan Melayu/Bumi" sentiments which is stopping you- just like how you destroyed PR unity in Sabah, by insisting on a Muslim leadership? Looks like the all powerful primitive Umno instinct has overpowered your reasoning capacities, mate.
After all that talk about "Ketuanan Rakyat" .... SHAME ON YOU!!

Some call the act of repeating the same mistakes and hoping for positive outcome, lunacy. Others call it- Stupidity.
Remember this, Anwar- as far as the people are concerned, everybody is dispensible. Stop behaving like a sore loser- and that goes for all other PKR members!!
The struggle for freedom, accountability, democracy, good governance and justice will go on- with or without you!!

PS
I'm truly disappointed with Baru Bian's submission to Anwar & his refusal to work with DAP on the shadow cabinet in the interest of Sarawakians ...
