Looking at the recent behaviour of the executive, it seems they are doing the same things they have been doing for years. March 8 does not seem to have made them any more sensitive to what bothers the Malaysian people.

The media just loves Karpal for his "anti-Pas" statements!
Can you imagine what perception this creates? The idea that PR is an unstable and vulnerable alliance which cannot be trusted to form a government is reinforced into the minds of the people.

Karpal just doesn't seem to get it does he?
We all know what the Hadi camp is trying to do - grab power at all cost, even if it means that they have to "pecah amanah" - break the promises they made to the electorate under the "People's Declaration", despite being Muslims.

Many in PAS have yet to come to terms with the reality of the situation wherein (as Shad Faruqi says), "In Malaysia, the term “social contract” has a unique meaning. It refers to the painstaking compromises ..... for the creation of a democratic, monarchial, federal and non-theocratic system of government."
These "Theocrats" don't understand that "Secular Humanism" protects religion just as much as it protects people from religion. It's a concept that's alien to the ignorant who look up to "political godmen" for guidance - even if they actually represent the devil.
They will learn in due time should we indulge in constructive engagement and education, instead of being confrontational.

It doesn't help to antagonize PAS instead of appearing to be accomodating where "Islamic brotherhood" is concerned.
Karpal should understand that while PAS has its fortress in Islam, it can be its Achille's Heel as well - and it is what Umno seeks to exploit in it's time of weakness, in the name of "Islam".
Of course, these things are done in the name of Islam ..... and "Ketuanan Melayu Umno" ideals. It doesn't matter if "Neo-Nazi ideas" aren't Islamic.
All that matters is - they can achieve power under the banner of "Islam-as-I-say-tion" - and mind you this is a very real possibility, considering the circumstances.

Umno would rather work with PAS to form a "Taliban-Lite" administration that can perpetuate their "methods", which PAS will have to bear the responsibility for - and would make them look like doves, in comparison to the "fire & brimstone" passion of the gullible "godmen".

Let them be.
Let them deal with the Umno cadre - just too bad if they fall victim to Umno's deceit once again. If they do fall for it as you may fear, they are better off that way, and were never meant to be allies anyway.
Work with what you have - Don't "PAS" Up, Karpal!

No modern nation state can exist in an orderly manner without a "written" Constitution which has to be the Point of Reference for future generations that aspire toward nationhood.
Without this point of reference, the nation as a whole is doomed. The people will seek out their own points of reference at their own whims and fancy, without regard for the Federal Constitution, as is happening now. Whatever disputes that may arise will need to refer to the Federal Constitution as a "Point of Reference".

For Shad Faruqi to imply that the only "Social Contract" there is, is the Federal Constitution, and nothing else, (despite not being a born Malaysian) as opposed to some earlier spin about "the social contract is in the constitution", should be appreciated. He makes no attempt to speak of "an unwritten code" which politicians often refer to. Much of what he says with reference to the Federal Constitution makes plenty of sense.
That he says the following of the "Social Contract", is reassuring -
"It refers to the painstaking compromises ......... for the creation of a democratic, monarchial, federal and non-theocratic system of government".

However, I do not quite understand how he could say that he's “inclined to agree” with attempts to block intellectual discourse on this matter, under the guise of “preventing the questioning the social contract”.
Of course, The Rulers Conference did say that you shouldn't question the validity of it, which is acceptable. I fail to see how, seeking it out once again, to understand it, is to question it!
They didn't say that you shouldn't discuss it to understand the spirit that it embodies, did they? Moreover, to rescue it from the perversions of the political pirates is imperative should we desire to uphold it!.
On the contrary – it is to uphold this “Social Contract” - what Shad Faruqi calls, the “Document of Destiny”! - do not spin it to be otherwise. You should be more careful in what you imply, Shad. The way I see it, it is only a “certain group of politicians” who dislike the awareness of constitutional rights which intellectual discourse give rise to – hence the “don't question” mentality.
Therefore I'm inclined to agree with the Rulers Conference that the "Social Contract" in the form of The Federal Constitution should be taught in schools (and some of our lawmakers too!).

The Federal Constitution has been redefined and subverted countless number of times, ever since the 'unconstitutional' suspension of parliament & Umno coup of '69, so as to progressively consolidate power at the centre - among a ruling elite.
It has been rendered into "toilet paper", so to speak, and only used when convenient. None of the principles that it stresses on is held sacred.
The result was the "social contract" as was harped on since the 80s.
And guess who the culprits are?

Now, most people who shout out hoarse about the BN social contract don't refer to the Federal Constitution any more - their point of reference is the NEP which has been twisted beyond recognition.
When it comes to national policies, the courts are turned into a playground for these NEP-ists and political pirates- the Constitution becomes secondary to the idea of self-preservation of these pirates of the constitution.
The twisted NEP, political motivations and the self-preservation of pirates takes precedence over the Federal Constitution when it comes to pronouncing judgements. The point of reference today is none other that the heartless exploitation, the whims and fancy of a certain politicians of the capitalist class who practice racist hegemony and religious bigotry.

Herein lies the problem – under the NEPists' political spin, the "Point of Reference" is lost. Without it there can be no faith in the state/nation/leadership.
As a result, the Pandora's Box has already been opened - with every other person seeking out his own (read religion) to restore faith. It is already here, and threatens to explode should it not be addressed. Preventing discourse isn't going to close it.

You cannot avoid friction by preventing intellectual discourse on it (as Mahathir would). Doing so would be counter-productive, in that you breed a generation of ignorant masses who can be manipulated by selfish politicians.
The unquestioning loyalty to a leadership sets the stage for a corruption prone government and a dictatorship. In fact, you would precipitate further confusion, friction and heat on the street, if questions aren't settled by intellectuals in a rational manner.
That of course would (conveniently) necessitate the imposition of "draconian measures" to bring order, to the delight of despots.
A cursory assessment of many third-world nations and dictatorships would be proof enough to see that, even if one hasn't the experience of writing constitutions for nations.

Having said all these, I wonder if Shad in "Understanding the Social Contract" would be "inclined to agree", that the democratic state cannot survive, should this "Point of Reference" (read Federal Constitution) be lost in translation, interpretation and manifestation ...
After having read what he wrote thus far, I'm not so sure he would - at least not in UiTM!
Meanwhile, some lessons in Newton's Laws of Physics may be in order ...

Fatwa on yoga out soon

PENANG, Oct 29 - The National Fatwa Council will come out with a ruling relating to yoga exercise soon.
The announcement would be made by the council's chairman, Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor Husin, said Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) Othman Mustapha.
He told reporters this after opening the two-day seminar on Islamic Jurisprudence and Eternal Islamic Thinking at Universiti Sains Malaysia jointly organised by the Islamic Studies Division of the university's Human Knowledge Study Centre and Jakim here today.
Yesterday, lecturer Prof Zakaria Stapa of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Islamic Studies Centre advised Muslims who have taken up yoga to stop practising it for fear that it could deviate their belief.

Never mind that all of them are filthy rich - None of the personalities above are people I'd look to for leadership under any circumstance. Their spineless nature and what they have done (not done, too) in their roles thus far is good enough a reason.
That's just me, okay.
This is because I would like to see a man who can articulate his thoughts well. The mind of one I'd choose would figure a great deal in the equation of "trust".

In Umno though, it's a different story - In Umno, it's a "incestuous affair", wherein patronage carries greater weight than intellectual acumen. Even if one is a retard or the least born in a family of political bigwigs with plenty of "goodies to throw around", he's assured of the pie that mama bakes.
Even if some may deny that it hasn't already been so for the last 50 yrs, at least in the near future, we're assured of this - what more when a nominee boldly claims that he shouldn't speak in public, lest "the opposition" debates it.

Mukhriz has stated that it isn't necessary for the public - all Malaysians - to hear him speak his mind in an open debate.
According to him, the leadership is a "family matter" .... sort of like the "negotiated tender" which should come under OSA, I suppose.
Yes - that's the future of Umno's reform and leadership of the nation.
It's a "family matter" - others shouldn't get to see the soiled linen or the by-productsof this incestuous orgy (even if they know of it). A little bit of idol-worship propaganda, assisted by the servile media and membership of this club usually solves all this nuisance called perception
The citizens don't need to hear him say anything. After all he cannot afford to be thought of as a bumbling fool who says that one can be arrested under ISA for "personal protection/safety", right?

The people shouldn't know that their leaders are mongoloids, retards or a loose cannon.
Maybe all Mukhriz needs to do to show his leadership skills, is just grin and walk around in a "daddy's boy" outfit. That would be good enough for the Umno Youth to shout out "Hidup whatever!" and carry him on their shoulder as the victor in the coming "family" elections.

There is also another argument presented by some other Umno-ites - there is a danger that the delegates would choose the best orator and not the best leader!!
To those who believe this, might I suggest that they dress themselves in bedsheets like the KKK or in hoods like the "Jihadis"- after all, the delegates may elect the most well dressed, the handsome, the ugliest, fattest, baldest or whatever else!
There is a real danger of this happening too, you see ... and I dread to think what else would come out of their puny minds, to make Malaysia look worse than it already does with Hamid Albar.

At least one among the candidates knew that he needed to rearrange his face to qualify as a "youth" candidate and the other knows that he's screwed (which explains his current "liberalist" politics) .....
Maybe, if Mukhriz has it his way, they would all be silent at all times, unless handed a script by the real players.
I wonder what the grand ol' man of Umno thinks about this Umno's evolution.
Being an Umno "family affair", I guess he believes it's all going according to plan ....

I’m a Somali living in Malaysia who follows the local scene here very much. I would have to admit that Tun Dr M’s greatest disadvantage is his pure, unadulterated hatred for anyone who disagrees with him. Never have I see a human being whose sole motivation, drive and engine is pure hatred. Just visit his blog which is read by friends and foes, locals and foreigners and I must tell you it epitomizes him in every way.

Since he started it after complaining of UMNO media strangulation, did you see an article that he has written concerning the poor, the needy, the widows, the orphans, the handicapped, the downtrodden, the wayfarers, compassion, empathy, sharing, sacrifice, charity, morality, accountability, God’s fear and Judgement, forgiveness, patience (etc)? No.

Always it is about some people, blaming others, calling them names, dishing out unvanished, pure hatred. Blaming others for this and that and exonerating himself from all blame? Surely, at this age? You can’t build a society and a nation through hate, vengeance, intense anger and mean spirit. You would have to remind the people the higher purpose of life for them to get motivated and work harder for the less fortunate and for themselves. Finger pointing, blaming others, planting defeatist culture in the Malays, reducing them to mad people (we are sensitive, we will run amok society that makes even foreigners despise the Malays) will not help this society and nation.

My people (the Somalis) suffered from cruel leadership and when the hatred became too much, we turned to each other and till today, we the only nation with no Central govt. The Malays share with us almost every trait, veru feudal, manipulated easily, territorial, misuse of Islam for expediency, rigid explanation of Islam and too much interest in outward Islam than inward Islam that strengthens the hearts, our only difference is that the Malays have the Chinese and the Indians around that make sthem watch out for the “enemies.”

For us, we didn’t have that and that’s why we turned to each other. If God has loved the Malays and Malaysia, it is because He brought other people here. If some Malays regret the presence of the Chinese and Indians, ask us the Somalis and you will know what it means to be an incestous (homogenous) society and you will praise the Almighty day in day out. If it was possible, I would have shipped the Chinese and Indians to Somalia to create diversity in my nation but it is wishful thinking.

The other person who makes me cringe in shame is one Curry[Khairy] Jamaluddin. Never have I seen a more uncouth, uncultured, degenerate, pugancious, ill, nefarious and utterly infantile being than this young man. I have a big heart who tries to understand everyone and put itself in their place, but I don’t think my heart can accommodate one Curry Jamaluddin. He is a primate and deserves the worst treatment (though I hate it because we are Muslims and human beings) but honestly he is too much.
