University suspends Aziz Bari

K Pragalath | October 20, 2011
The law professor was also issued a show-cause letter with regard to his views on the sultan's decree on the DUMC-JAIS row.
PETALING JAYA: Constitutional law professor Aziz Bari has been suspended until further notice by International Islamic University (IIUM).
The suspension comes in the wake of his comments in an Oct 12 Malaysiakini article entitled “Aziz Bari: Tidak salah kritik Raja-raja’ (Aziz Bari: Not wrong to criticise the Rulers).”
Among others, Aziz offered the view that the Sedition Act 1948 doesn’t criminalise an individual for comments made against a sultan.
The law professor gave his views in relation to the Selangor Sultan’s decree on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church’s (DUMC) row with the Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS).
Aside from suspension by the university, Aziz has also been issued a show-cause letter.
“I have been given until next Tuesday to respond to the show-cause letter,” said Aziz, who has been lecturing on law for the past 22 years.
Aziz is represented by two lawyers in this case – Hanipa Maidin and Zulqarnain Luqman.
According to Zulqarnain, the action against Aziz was taken in accordance with Rule 15(1) of the Staff Disciplinary Rules 2005 in IIUM.
Rule 15(1) states that university staff members cannot make any statement that is detrimental to the university.
“Aziz is now not allowed to enter the premises of the university, and do anything without a written permission from the faculty dean,” said Zulqarnain. “He, however, will receive his full salary.”
Commenting on the rule and charge against Aziz, Zulqarnain maintained it is okay for Aziz to make a comment on academic grounds.
“This is the third time Aziz has been issued a show-cause letter. Previously the university remained silent after Aziz responded to its show-cause letter,” added Zulqarnain.

PAS:- By all means, Go Whack the Christians ... just don't wear PAS colors!

****************************

“This life’s dim windows of the soul,
distorts the heavens from pole to pole,
and goads you to believe a lie,
when you see with and not through the eye.”
-William Blake

**************************************

While the world is concerned about the economy being plundered by politicians and their corporate cronies, a certain community in Malaysia is busy looking for "ghosts under the bed" to whack for their failures ...
It appears that they're more concerned about the pie in the sky which others (who incidentally don't care for it) may lose!!

While many people on the street and in cyberspace are trying hard to campaign for the PR trinity of unlikely bedmates- PAS has come out shining in its hypocrisy.
This is their "masyarakat madani", "kerajaan kebajikan" or whatever they call it ...
One could be forgiven to perceive this as the rise of Fascism in Malaysia - it may be a matter of time before there are anti-Christian pogroms or hudood convictions.
So much for our wishes for "good governance" should PR come to power .... so much for "Bersih" .... so much for our efforts at "propping up" PAS credibility.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"Where is the life we have lost in the living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information ?
The cycles of heaven in twenty centuries
bring us farther from God and nearer to dust."
- T.S. Elliot
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

So it comes to pass that politicians are competing not just for power or money- they're also competing to dumb-down & stupefy the faithful ignorant souls ... all "in God's Name".
They seem so totally devoid of courage to stand up to the liars who have perpetrated the slander and created a "siege mentality" among their followers. They do not see the immorality of the intentions behind the rally- which is clearly meant to provoke the faithful into a frenzy of hatred directed at a certain other faith.

With a Minister in PMO advising PAS not to fear the rally- it is quite obvious where the stink comes from ... but PAS thinks that their members should be free to attend (in other words- support) the rally, as long as they do not wear party colors!!

“If any chaos breaks out, such as participants lashing out at Christians or threatening Christians... or perhaps violent acts like the burning of any paraphernalia and so on, these members will have to answer for themselves if they are seen abetting such acts,” said Dr Rani of PAS so wisely. He also said, “Islam does not preach or promote violence among those of different faiths. We do not want any problems,”
But the only reason PAS doesn't attend is ONLY "because it doesn't want to politicize" the rally which is organized by NGOs!!

************************************

“Selangor PAS will heed and adopt the stand
taken by our central leadership that
we should not attend the gathering as a political party.
This is to respect the wishes of
Himpun’s organisers to keep the event apolitical,”
-
Dr Abd Rani Osman, Selangor PAS commissioner

************************************

Now take this (from TheMalaysiaInsider):- "Himpun, which claims to have the backing of some 2,000 NGOs representing over four million Muslims nationwide, was mooted after the controversial raid on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) and aims to protest against Christians “challenging the sovereignty” of Islam."

This reminded me of a rhyme by Anne Russell ......
"At three I had a feeling of ambivalence toward my brothers,
and so it follows naturally that I poisoned my lovers.
but now I'm happy I have learned the lesson this has taught,
that everything that I do that's wrong is somebody else's fault".

It's really sad that UMNO attempts to paint such shameful a stereotypical image of the Malay/Muslim for for the Non-Malay/Muslim to perceive through this "rally"- which is nothing but hate-mongering & incitement, as a continuation of the politics of fear they desire. It reinforces the perception that the followers of the Malay based political parties are mostly nothing but "simpletons" who're incapable of rational thought.
It is even sadder still that PAS (and PKR) - on whom many have placed their hopes for a better Malaysia-  chickens out from standing up to such injustice & immorality!!
It is quite obvious that UMNO has managed to expose the hypocrisy which PAS espouses .....

I don't know how the good Malay/Muslim brothers & sisters can take such insults & humiliation sitting down .... in the faced of such blatant hypocrisy, lies & slander in the name of GOD!!

Just a reminder to those who insist on looking for "ghosts under the bed" to whack for all their miseries and failures- know that you poison the stream you drink from ... andyou will reap what you sow.

"It will not do to cling to the cause
and wish the result away.
Reality does not play mind games.

What is more, to anesthetize the mind in order
to abort what comes to birth-

when wrong ideas are conceived
and borne in the womb of culture,
will only kill the very life-giving force
of the nation that nurtures the idea."

The Penan – Still Struggling to Save Our Jungle [FILM TRIBUTE]

*******************************************
Bruno Manser - who died for the Penans.
*******************************************
The Penan are the iconic people of the Sarawak jungle.  Most communities had settled into villages and rural life of one form or another over the last hundred years, but the Penan steadfastly stuck to their nomadic ways.

With just a few possessions, easily carried on their backs, they have had nothing to lose but the jungle they live from.  Which is why they are the community that has fought hardest and longest to prevent its destruction by greedy and relentless logging.

However, we would be unwise to dismiss them as simple or backward people.  One should reserve that judgement for those narrow-minded, unimaginative IQs who can think only of the ringgit and jewels and houses they can buy from cutting it down.

The Penan understand the deeper value of the Borneo jungle, the world’s oldest and most bio-diverse environment on earth.  If Taib had not been so eager to get rich as quickly as possible, he too would have done well to consider the pharmaceutical, DNA, tourism, scientific and other values of this region of enormous weatlh, variety and promise.
Instead he is turning it into a single crop plantation that will soon run out of soil due to to massive erosion and turn to desert.  He is also converting one of the earth’s two key ‘lungs’, the great jungles that breath water into the air and suck out dangerous carbon dioxide, into on of the major causes of Global Warming.

Race quotas, politics led to falling UM standards, says World Bank study- The Malaysian Insider

October 17, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — A World Bank publication has found that standards at Universiti Malaya have fallen and the institution has been kept at a disadvantage because of race-based admission quotas and political interference in university management. In contrast, Singapore’s decision to prioritise research, keeping English as the medium of instruction and a merit-based admissions policy have all contributed to the success of the National University of Singapore’s success, according to “The Road to Academic Excellence,” which studies what contributes to a world-class research university.
The study also noted that Malaysian secondary school students are not well prepared for tertiary education.
It points out that the Malaysian education system promotes rote learning, conformity and uniformity rather than fresh and creative thinking.
The study is led by two scholars — Philip Altbach and Jamil Salmi — while various chapters see contributions from various academics.
Salmi, a Moroccan education economist attached to the World Bank, also notes that “disturbing political developments, from the burning of churches to the whipping of a woman for drinking beer in public,” also cast a shadow on Malaysia’s “image as an open and tolerant society.”
The comparisons between UM and NUS is contained in a chapter entitled “The National University of Singapore and the University of Malaya: Common Roots and Different Paths.”
The chapter is authored by Hena Mukherjee, a former Universiti Malaya department head with a doctorate in education from Harvard University, and Poh Kam Wong, an NUS Business School professor.
According to the study, “at an early stage, the Singapore government realised the universities’ role in sustaining economic growth.
“In contrast, after 1970, UM’s institutional goals reflected the New Economic Policy, an affirmative action plan for ethnic Malays and indigenous groups, put in place in the wake of disastrous 1969 ethnic riots that took the lives of hundreds of people on both sides of the racial divide.,” the study found.
The authors said that apart from the student quota system, the NEP translated into more scholarships to Bumiputeras, special programmes to facilitate their entry into higher education institutions, and the use of the Malay language in place of English in the entire education system by 1983.
“In UM and in government, the policy impact spiralled upward so that Bumiputera staff members, over time, secured almost all senior management, administrative, and academic positions.
“As NUS kept pace with the demands of a growing economy that sought to become competitive internationally, with English continuing as the language of instruction and research, UM began to focus inward as proficiency in English declined in favour of the national language — Bahasa Malaysia — and the New Economic Policy’s social goals took precedence.”
The study noted however that there has been widespread recognition that the implementation of affirmative action policies in Malaysia has hurt the higher education system, sapping Malaysia’s economic competitiveness and driving some (mainly Chinese and Indians) to more meritocratic countries, such as Singapore.

"Fighting the Jews" .... err ... thru "Islamic sex"- that's HOT & KINKY!!

Obedient Wives Club publishes explicit sex book

October 12, 2011

Previously, the club’s vice-president, Dr Rohaya Mohamad (right), had provoked an outcry for advising women to behave like “a first-class whore” while in the company of their husbands. — file pic
KOTA BARU, Oct 12 — A Muslim man can have sex with all his wives at the same time, according to a controversial new book on Islamic sex by the Obedient Wives Club (OWC).

Titillatingly-titled “Seks Islam, perangi Yahudi untk kembalikan seks Islam kepada dunia [Islamic sex, fighting Jews to return Islamic sex to the world]”, the explicit book aims to guide Muslim brides on how to pleasure their husbands in bed.
In its foreword, the pro-polygamy OWC said its studies showed women only gave their husbands 10 per cent of what the men desired of their wives’ bodies.

Malay-language daily, Berita Harian, reported today the Malay-Muslim community was upset the book featured on its front cover the polygamous leader of the outlawed Al-Arqam religious sect, Asaari Muhammad, and also objected to its extremely graphic visuals.
An extract on the back cover reads, in Bahasa Malaysia: “Selaku pemimpin roh, kebolehan yang Allah izinkan kepada mereka ialah boleh serentak dengan semua isteri-isteri melakukan hubungan jenis. Manakala kalau isteripun orang roh, lagilah hebat. Ke mana-mana terbang untuk atau sambil melakukan hubungan sulit itu dalam keadaan lebih nikmat dan lebih ringan dibanding dengan perlakuan yang menggunakan fizikal. Untuk itulah Abuya sedang proses isteri-isterinya ke arah roh.”

In English:
“As a spiritual leader, Allah has granted him the ability to have simultaneous sex with all his wives.
And if the wife is spiritual, the sex is greater.
They can fly anywhere for sex- it is more enjoyable and easier compared to physical sex.
For that reason, Abuya was processing his wives towards the spiritual.”
(Ok- all you ladies who need some "PROCESSING" - please feel free to join Abuya, okay ....)

The paper noted that explicit sex details littered the book’s 115 pages, and cited as another example chapter eight which deals with “how sex becomes worship”.

Charge them in court- or shut up, Hasan Ali!! Stop the slander!!

"We are a nation rather in love with substance over style (sic),

That’s the reality behind the recent decision to exonerate

"Instead of moving forwards, we keep going round and round.
Saying and doing the same things.

Always championing race and religion;

This siege mentality gets us nowhere.
It makes one wonder if it’s all a big conspiracy.

Don’t improve our education system.

Terence Netto- Malaysiakini
2:37PM Oct 11

Catholic Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing today reminded Hasan Ali of PAS, the Selangor executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs, that he is a “an elected representative of a party that cannot rely on dubious evidence when accusing others of wrongdoing”.

Responding to Hasan’s opinion that yesterday’s statement by the Selangor sultan showed that there was Christian proselytising of Muslims at a function hosted by a Christian group in August, the head of the Catholic Church in the Malacca-Johor diocese said: “More than any other party, PAS has to be extremely fastidious about the evidence before preferring an accusation.”

bishop paul tanTan explained: “Need I remind him his party wants to implement a judicial system - at least in one state in the country - that in the terminal finality of the punishments it encompasses makes the sifting of evidence a matter of the gravest responsibility.

“In leaping to his conclusions in the matter of alleged Christian proselytising of Muslims at the dinner hosted by the Damansara Utama Methodist Centre (DUMC), Hasan has been grossly negligent in respect of evidence evaluation.

“He has done a grave disservice to the cause of the judicial system his party is on record as propounding for the good of citizens in this country.

“People are going to look at the way he has leaped from arbitrary fact to accusatory conclusion in this matter and ask what kind of system is his party propounding that allows a grave accusation to be preferred on a dubious evidentiary basis.”

azlanTan reminded Hasan (left) that “not only in Selangor but every other state in Malaysia, his party is in contention with the supposedly corrupt and unprincipled”.

“Therefore it is incumbent upon him to hold himself to a higher standard of public conduct and exposition than of those he is in contention with.”
