Remembering Zac ....

A dear friend known to most of us as Zac (Razak Ali) had passed-on, fifteen years ago today.

An old boy of VI, he was a good natured guy who got along well with almost all he was known to - in fact, I know of none that he didn't get along with!
Although academically brilliant he did not get an opportunity to do Medicine locally. If I'm not mistaken, he was a straight A student (at least close to that, if I'm wrong).
It was I'm certain, Dato's dream to see his dear brother a Doctor - and as such sent him overseas to do Medicine.

When I first got to know him in my pre-Uni days, he was quite reserved - I wouldn't know why, but it seemed like it was because he never really was "exposed" much. By my standards (I mean compared to the "hantu" that I was, he was definitely an angel), he was "innocence" personified.
We (a group of us who joined his class) all saw him as easy going and friendly from day one - and we all clicked so well from day one.
He was such a fun guy, loveable, generous and honest to a fault. He could rarely tell a lie with a straight face - so much so, it was joke each time he got caught lying!
Moving on to Med-school, I became his housemate - but "politics of youth" got the better of us and we kind-of drifted in different directions, although there was no real fallout.
Of course we did trade blows at one time when we had a small tiff over some inconsequential stuff, which we promptly forgot and started partying together once again.

Books though, were a major factor in driving us onto different paths - we both "F-ed" -up bigtime, and had to do overtime work to get back in line to catch up .....
[Forget others - I surprised myself into becoming a "bookworm" of sorts and started putting in 10-14 hrs of "graphing" (besides college- jokes aside!!) on my butt to do the catching up with studies. The word was that I had "buang tabiat", and was headed for a "meltdown" soon (thank God nothing like that happened)].
As a result, we sort of lost touch with each other & many around us, and had a new circles of friends. Even then, Zac, Obi Anamah, JP, Diji, Munir, Biren, KichiBai, ST, Martin, Baljit and others were still my closest buddies and we definitely still got together occasionally. Oh yes - even with all the "graphing", we did party when we needed do "unwind" occasionally.
We were known then as "The Pet Shop Boys" - I'm sure that name would would draw a nostalgic smile from many of "the boys".....

15yrs ago today, I got a knock on my door in the middle of the night (2 a.m. I guess) - Diji showed up to draw me away from books.
Zac was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He was called by "a friend" to "negotiate" - when he was comfortably at home (studying, I guess).
He had unwittingly walked into a dispute, about which he was totally clueless.
Things went horribly wrong - and Zac ended up the victim of circumstances.
Zac was cruelly snatched away from us at the spring of his life!

Needless to say, everybody was shocked - never in the history of the Uni, had something like this happened.
The whole college was in mourning, a meeting of seniors was held and the Dean declared a day of "holiday" for all to pay their last respects.
Court cases are court cases - and nothing much came of it.

Last I heard (from Biren, I think) the culprit met the same fate some time back.
For quite some time (definitely more than a year), while having our get-togethers, suddenly a sense of gloom would descend upon us, when Zac would become the topic of conversation and we would reminisce the bittersweet days when he was with us ....

Zac, we still remember & miss you.
May God Bless your soul - Rest in peace, Friend, Brother.

Hymn to the Spirit of Nature
P. B. Shelley

LIFE of Life! thy lips enkindle
With their love the breath between them;
And thy smiles before they dwindle
Make the cold air fire: then screen them
In those locks, where whoso gazes
Faints, entangled in their mazes.

Child of Light! thy limbs are burning
Through the veil which seems to hide them,
As the radiant lines of morning
Through thin clouds, ere they divide them;
And this atmosphere divinest
Shrouds thee wheresoe'er thou shinest.

Fair are others: none beholds thee;
But thy voice sounds low and tender
Like the fairest, for it folds thee
From the sight, that liquid splendour;
And all feel, yet see thee never,
As I feel now, lost for ever!

Lamp of Earth! where'er thou movest
Its dim shapes are clad with brightness,
And the souls of whom thou lovest
Walk upon the winds with lightness
Till they fail, as I am failing,
Dizzy, lost, yet unbewailing!

The Crack at The Judiciary Gets a Whippin' ...

There was a MSM report (I don't recollect which one ...) about some
"tough talk" about "errant judges" lately entitled (drum roll please)....:-
"CJ cracks the whip"
(- which has since been changed!!!).

Anyway, we're beginning to see the fruits of the said "Crack" ...

PS.
Just thinking with some illustrations from the net .....
The following may possibly be the case scenario for the evolution

Karpal - Stop "Passing" Up in Public!

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"After the March 8 general election, Pas had talks with Umno to form a coalition government in Selangor. This was an act of bad faith as both DAP and PKR were not informed of such a move by Pas."

Najib, who is also Umno deputy president, on Saturday suggested expanding the Umno-Pas talks.
Abdul Hadi said: "There is no joining with Umno, none. We are also not entering Barisan."

Looking at the recent behaviour of the executive, it seems they are doing the same things they have been doing for years. March 8 does not seem to have made them any more sensitive to what bothers the Malaysian people.
==========================================

Here he goes again ...
The media just loves Karpal for his "anti-Pas" statements!
Can you imagine what perception this creates? The idea that PR is an unstable and vulnerable alliance which cannot be trusted to form a government is reinforced into the minds of the people.

Karpal just doesn't seem to get it does he?
We all know what the Hadi camp is trying to do - grab power at all cost, even if it means that they have to "pecah amanah" - break the promises they made to the electorate under the "People's Declaration", despite being Muslims.

Many in PAS have yet to come to terms with the reality of the situation wherein (as Shad Faruqi says), "In Malaysia, the term “social contract” has a unique meaning. It refers to the painstaking compromises ..... for the creation of a democratic, monarchial, federal and non-theocratic system of government."
These "Theocrats" don't understand that "Secular Humanism" protects religion just as much as it protects people from religion. It's a concept that's alien to the ignorant who look up to "political godmen" for guidance - even if they actually represent the devil.
They will learn in due time should we indulge in constructive engagement and education, instead of being confrontational.

It doesn't help to antagonize PAS instead of appearing to be accomodating where "Islamic brotherhood" is concerned.
Karpal should understand that while PAS has its fortress in Islam, it can be its Achille's Heel as well - and it is what Umno seeks to exploit in it's time of weakness, in the name of "Islam".
Of course, these things are done in the name of Islam ..... and "Ketuanan Melayu Umno" ideals. It doesn't matter if "Neo-Nazi ideas" aren't Islamic.
All that matters is - they can achieve power under the banner of "Islam-as-I-say-tion" - and mind you this is a very real possibility, considering the circumstances.

Umno would rather work with PAS to form a "Taliban-Lite" administration that can perpetuate their "methods", which PAS will have to bear the responsibility for - and would make them look like doves, in comparison to the "fire & brimstone" passion of the gullible "godmen".

Let them be.
Let them deal with the Umno cadre - just too bad if they fall victim to Umno's deceit once again. If they do fall for it as you may fear, they are better off that way, and were never meant to be allies anyway.
Work with what you have - Don't "PAS" Up, Karpal!

Getting His Crack at the Whip (or vice versa?)

CJ cracks the whip

Chief Justice Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi has vowed to get tough on errant judges, whom he accuses of besmirching the image and reputation of the judiciary. Zaki, who replaced Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad as the country’s top judge, said such errant judges should consider leaving the judiciary.

The Following was an interesting article in Malay from "Tukar Tiub":-

Seeking the "Point Of Reference".

*************************************************

"More importantly, the individual-collective version implies periodical renewal, in that it permits revisions, while the ruler-subject version is cast in stone. In this sense, that the Conference of Rulers interpreted the social contract as "all provisions in the Federal Constitution" is most assuring. "
-Wong Chin Huat, A tale of two contracts , The Nut Graph

"There is a lively and inconclusive debate about what the document of destiny actually ordained and how far the imperatives of the Constitution should be modified to meet the new aspirations of the electorate.
The Malay Rulers caution against such thinking and I am inclined to agree.
Physics teaches us that any movement causes friction and friction produces heat."

- Shad Faruqi, Understanding the Social Contract
=============================================

No modern nation state can exist in an orderly manner without a "written" Constitution which has to be the Point of Reference for future generations that aspire toward nationhood.
Without this point of reference, the nation as a whole is doomed. The people will seek out their own points of reference at their own whims and fancy, without regard for the Federal Constitution, as is happening now. Whatever disputes that may arise will need to refer to the Federal Constitution as a "Point of Reference".

For Shad Faruqi to imply that the only "Social Contract" there is, is the Federal Constitution, and nothing else, (despite not being a born Malaysian) as opposed to some earlier spin about "the social contract is in the constitution", should be appreciated. He makes no attempt to speak of "an unwritten code" which politicians often refer to. Much of what he says with reference to the Federal Constitution makes plenty of sense.
That he says the following of the "Social Contract", is reassuring -
"It refers to the painstaking compromises ......... for the creation of a democratic, monarchial, federal and non-theocratic system of government".

However, I do not quite understand how he could say that he's “inclined to agree” with attempts to block intellectual discourse on this matter, under the guise of “preventing the questioning the social contract”.
Of course, The Rulers Conference did say that you shouldn't question the validity of it, which is acceptable. I fail to see how, seeking it out once again, to understand it, is to question it!
They didn't say that you shouldn't discuss it to understand the spirit that it embodies, did they? Moreover, to rescue it from the perversions of the political pirates is imperative should we desire to uphold it!.
On the contrary – it is to uphold this “Social Contract” - what Shad Faruqi calls, the “Document of Destiny”! - do not spin it to be otherwise. You should be more careful in what you imply, Shad. The way I see it, it is only a “certain group of politicians” who dislike the awareness of constitutional rights which intellectual discourse give rise to – hence the “don't question” mentality.
Therefore I'm inclined to agree with the Rulers Conference that the "Social Contract" in the form of The Federal Constitution should be taught in schools (and some of our lawmakers too!).

The Federal Constitution has been redefined and subverted countless number of times, ever since the 'unconstitutional' suspension of parliament & Umno coup of '69, so as to progressively consolidate power at the centre - among a ruling elite.
It has been rendered into "toilet paper", so to speak, and only used when convenient. None of the principles that it stresses on is held sacred.
The result was the "social contract" as was harped on since the 80s.
And guess who the culprits are?

Now, most people who shout out hoarse about the BN social contract don't refer to the Federal Constitution any more - their point of reference is the NEP which has been twisted beyond recognition.
When it comes to national policies, the courts are turned into a playground for these NEP-ists and political pirates- the Constitution becomes secondary to the idea of self-preservation of these pirates of the constitution.
The twisted NEP, political motivations and the self-preservation of pirates takes precedence over the Federal Constitution when it comes to pronouncing judgements. The point of reference today is none other that the heartless exploitation, the whims and fancy of a certain politicians of the capitalist class who practice racist hegemony and religious bigotry.

Herein lies the problem – under the NEPists' political spin, the "Point of Reference" is lost. Without it there can be no faith in the state/nation/leadership.
As a result, the Pandora's Box has already been opened - with every other person seeking out his own (read religion) to restore faith. It is already here, and threatens to explode should it not be addressed. Preventing discourse isn't going to close it.

You cannot avoid friction by preventing intellectual discourse on it (as Mahathir would). Doing so would be counter-productive, in that you breed a generation of ignorant masses who can be manipulated by selfish politicians.
The unquestioning loyalty to a leadership sets the stage for a corruption prone government and a dictatorship. In fact, you would precipitate further confusion, friction and heat on the street, if questions aren't settled by intellectuals in a rational manner.
That of course would (conveniently) necessitate the imposition of "draconian measures" to bring order, to the delight of despots.
A cursory assessment of many third-world nations and dictatorships would be proof enough to see that, even if one hasn't the experience of writing constitutions for nations.

Having said all these, I wonder if Shad in "Understanding the Social Contract" would be "inclined to agree", that the democratic state cannot survive, should this "Point of Reference" (read Federal Constitution) be lost in translation, interpretation and manifestation ...
After having read what he wrote thus far, I'm not so sure he would - at least not in UiTM!
Meanwhile, some lessons in Newton's Laws of Physics may be in order ...

1. "Every body perseveres in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight forward, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by force impressed."
2. "F = ma: the net force on an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration."
3. "To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."
- Newton's Laws of Motion

***************************************************

"It is time that the “Social Contract” be reviewed. A new “Social Contract” must be drawn up that looks into the SOCIAL structure and not RACIAL structure that the present “Social Contract” addresses. Only then can it be called a “Social Contract”. If not, then let us call it what it really is, a “Racial Contract”. "

Fatwa on yoga out soon

PENANG, Oct 29 - The National Fatwa Council will come out with a ruling relating to yoga exercise soon.
The announcement would be made by the council's chairman, Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor Husin, said Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) Othman Mustapha.
He told reporters this after opening the two-day seminar on Islamic Jurisprudence and Eternal Islamic Thinking at Universiti Sains Malaysia jointly organised by the Islamic Studies Division of the university's Human Knowledge Study Centre and Jakim here today.
Yesterday, lecturer Prof Zakaria Stapa of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Islamic Studies Centre advised Muslims who have taken up yoga to stop practising it for fear that it could deviate their belief.

National Leadership Umno Internal Affair??

"I believe not only is the public interested in such debates but people also want to know what their leaders' stands, ideas and abilities are."
Khairy said: “I just want to know the time, date and venue and I’ll come.”

Dr Khir agreed to the debate on Sunday.

“Contesting for posts in a party is an internal matter.
This is like a family contest, therefore it is not necessary to draw external attention.
“Furthermore a public debate will only undermine efforts to strengthen the party especially if the issues brought up are sensationalised by the Opposition,’’ he said.
- Mukhriz

*********************************************

Never mind that all of them are filthy rich - None of the personalities above are people I'd look to for leadership under any circumstance. Their spineless nature and what they have done (not done, too) in their roles thus far is good enough a reason.
That's just me, okay.
This is because I would like to see a man who can articulate his thoughts well. The mind of one I'd choose would figure a great deal in the equation of "trust".

In Umno though, it's a different story - In Umno, it's a "incestuous affair", wherein patronage carries greater weight than intellectual acumen. Even if one is a retard or the least born in a family of political bigwigs with plenty of "goodies to throw around", he's assured of the pie that mama bakes.
Even if some may deny that it hasn't already been so for the last 50 yrs, at least in the near future, we're assured of this - what more when a nominee boldly claims that he shouldn't speak in public, lest "the opposition" debates it.

Mukhriz has stated that it isn't necessary for the public - all Malaysians - to hear him speak his mind in an open debate.
According to him, the leadership is a "family matter" .... sort of like the "negotiated tender" which should come under OSA, I suppose.
Yes - that's the future of Umno's reform and leadership of the nation.
It's a "family matter" - others shouldn't get to see the soiled linen or the by-productsof this incestuous orgy (even if they know of it). A little bit of idol-worship propaganda, assisted by the servile media and membership of this club usually solves all this nuisance called perception
The citizens don't need to hear him say anything. After all he cannot afford to be thought of as a bumbling fool who says that one can be arrested under ISA for "personal protection/safety", right?

The people shouldn't know that their leaders are mongoloids, retards or a loose cannon.
Maybe all Mukhriz needs to do to show his leadership skills, is just grin and walk around in a "daddy's boy" outfit. That would be good enough for the Umno Youth to shout out "Hidup whatever!" and carry him on their shoulder as the victor in the coming "family" elections.

There is also another argument presented by some other Umno-ites - there is a danger that the delegates would choose the best orator and not the best leader!!
To those who believe this, might I suggest that they dress themselves in bedsheets like the KKK or in hoods like the "Jihadis"- after all, the delegates may elect the most well dressed, the handsome, the ugliest, fattest, baldest or whatever else!
There is a real danger of this happening too, you see ... and I dread to think what else would come out of their puny minds, to make Malaysia look worse than it already does with Hamid Albar.

At least one among the candidates knew that he needed to rearrange his face to qualify as a "youth" candidate and the other knows that he's screwed (which explains his current "liberalist" politics) .....
Maybe, if Mukhriz has it his way, they would all be silent at all times, unless handed a script by the real players.
I wonder what the grand ol' man of Umno thinks about this Umno's evolution.
Being an Umno "family affair", I guess he believes it's all going according to plan ....

Happy Diwali To all Malaysians!

A Special Dedication to Those Incarcerated For Speaking up For The Nation And Truth:-

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

A Foreigner's Perception of Malaysian Politicians

The following was "lifted" from Din Merican's blog.
This was in response to Dr. Anees's experience in the well known Matress case masterminded by "you-know-who".
(To think that all the mindless membership of Umno Baru and the hordes of idol-worshippers commenting on CheDet.com are oblivious to these facts - is quite a scary thought!!).

Din,

I’m a Somali living in Malaysia who follows the local scene here very much. I would have to admit that Tun Dr M’s greatest disadvantage is his pure, unadulterated hatred for anyone who disagrees with him. Never have I see a human being whose sole motivation, drive and engine is pure hatred. Just visit his blog which is read by friends and foes, locals and foreigners and I must tell you it epitomizes him in every way.

Since he started it after complaining of UMNO media strangulation, did you see an article that he has written concerning the poor, the needy, the widows, the orphans, the handicapped, the downtrodden, the wayfarers, compassion, empathy, sharing, sacrifice, charity, morality, accountability, God’s fear and Judgement, forgiveness, patience (etc)? No.

Always it is about some people, blaming others, calling them names, dishing out unvanished, pure hatred. Blaming others for this and that and exonerating himself from all blame? Surely, at this age? You can’t build a society and a nation through hate, vengeance, intense anger and mean spirit. You would have to remind the people the higher purpose of life for them to get motivated and work harder for the less fortunate and for themselves. Finger pointing, blaming others, planting defeatist culture in the Malays, reducing them to mad people (we are sensitive, we will run amok society that makes even foreigners despise the Malays) will not help this society and nation.

My people (the Somalis) suffered from cruel leadership and when the hatred became too much, we turned to each other and till today, we the only nation with no Central govt. The Malays share with us almost every trait, veru feudal, manipulated easily, territorial, misuse of Islam for expediency, rigid explanation of Islam and too much interest in outward Islam than inward Islam that strengthens the hearts, our only difference is that the Malays have the Chinese and the Indians around that make sthem watch out for the “enemies.”

For us, we didn’t have that and that’s why we turned to each other. If God has loved the Malays and Malaysia, it is because He brought other people here. If some Malays regret the presence of the Chinese and Indians, ask us the Somalis and you will know what it means to be an incestous (homogenous) society and you will praise the Almighty day in day out. If it was possible, I would have shipped the Chinese and Indians to Somalia to create diversity in my nation but it is wishful thinking.

The other person who makes me cringe in shame is one Curry[Khairy] Jamaluddin. Never have I seen a more uncouth, uncultured, degenerate, pugancious, ill, nefarious and utterly infantile being than this young man. I have a big heart who tries to understand everyone and put itself in their place, but I don’t think my heart can accommodate one Curry Jamaluddin. He is a primate and deserves the worst treatment (though I hate it because we are Muslims and human beings) but honestly he is too much.

Seeking Escape & Comfort in Lies ....

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
We do not err because truth is difficult to see.
It is visible at a glance.

We err because this is more comfortable.

--Alexander Solzhenitsyn
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I was reading this post on Din Merican's blog, written by John Lee (of Infernal Ramblings, I presume) entitled Draconian Laws: The Truth and Our Economy.
(I can hardly believe that such observations come from one as young as 18. Commentaries from John have been quite sharp even 2 yrs ago in MT discussions.)
What struck me as quite significant was the following:-
"This climate of fear we live in is not something we can tolerate just because we can still put food on the table and send the kids to school. It cuts to something fundamental about us as human beings. We have a right to know, and a right to believe. "

Towards the end of last year (published in MT before its newer format) - I had written something along these lines in A Malaysian Disease of Fear and Apathy. As true as some of the observations may have been, I'm a little more "compassionate" (for lack of a better word) with regard to the predicament of most Malaysians today. Taking into consideration the complexity of issues that plague the common man's life, one cannot be too judgemental.
As one of the participants at the vigil said, "we cannot blame them. they have 'issues' - let them do what they can....".
So much for social awareness ....

If there's to be reform, Umno wants it done the Umno way, or no way. They believe that their right to rule is sacrosanct and democracy is but a charade. Thanks to Mahathir.
It is unlikely that there will be any reform in the near future.
Umno CANNOT reform, as corruption as others may see it, is how it lives. It feeds and breathes corruption. It was how they have managed to "buy out" the conscience of the people it professes to defend, and have rendered them handicapped without the Umno system.
Reforms or not - AAB would be out by December, whatever he may say - his words weren't worth the spit he wasted since day one anyway. The "Pak Lah camp" is already beginning to complain about the disease they promoted at one time - they now begin to put on the face of righteousness, and posture when their political demise is imminent.
Khairy now speaks of "a common destiny" - sounding almost like a Pakatan member.
Rais Yatim complains about "money politics".

Out of the blue, Mukhriz is smiling now.
Mahathir is on the rise - although his "expired" bypass graft wouldn't last much longer (with or without stem cell infusions or "bird's nest" tonics). We are already seeing certain aspects of his methods being enforced. If he believes that he can leave behind "stability", he's just seeking warmth in his winter years.
The damage is done, and there isn't much that he can do to repair it - he's left behind a "leadership" devoid of any substance, through his anti-intellectual policies. The civil service, once the pride of the nation, is today a source of shame. The judiciary is in tatters, while less said about the police, the better.

Meanwhile - Our "economic fundamentals are strong & resilient" despite FDI losses.
RPK is still detained without trial under ISA.
Utusan starts hate mongering. Malaysiakini gets "fixed-up".
6 yr olds are arrested for pleading with the PM.
Everything has been declared to be "in order" with Istana Zakaria.
5 billion of the rakyats' money is to be taken from EPF to prop up "blue chips" on the KLSE.
The markets are in turmoil.
There is a severe erosion of confidence. A gloom has descended upon Malaysia.
And Hope is dissipating - Despair is in the air.

Most Malaysian's actually support this movement for reform and A New Malaysia as a result of the "awareness campaigns" by various quarters -
most significant of which was the "Hindraf" movement, despite not really being an Organisation per se (whatever Hamid Albar may say).
However, for many a Malaysian, there's always a "But", and "what if" to their argument when it comes to participation in the activism - whether it is to Uphold the Supremacy of the Federal Constitution, free RPK, abolish ISA, demand accountability or an independent judiciary.

There is this "reduced vibrancy" even in the blogs - it may just be my perception though ...
Haris hasn't posted since Zaki was appointed CJ of Federal Courts - last post was on the 20th.
Silence since ..... I wonder why.
(Update:- Two posts were made today. I stand corrected.)
Aisehman has gone offline "after 5 yrs of blogging"- possibly disheartened with the media spin on the Media statement from the Conference of Rulers.
He said in his (probably not the last) farewell -"I disagree the strongest with the implicit argument that due to “the historical background and social condition of the country”, the principle of equality must take a back seat. That is my opinion." (But of course he still gives in to Royal wisdom as he understood it, and said "Daulat Tuanku").
MT goes on like a news portal with plenty of bad news & crappy discussions, instead of the lively, attractive and stimulating so-po discussion forum it used to be.
Zorro and some others seem to have got better though ...

The power of the written word takes time to manifest. The resurgence campaign for reform is at its infancy on the web. The realisation is barely catching on, and these guys have taken a break - probably they need some time to reflect and reboot for a "phase 2".
They must have put so much hope in the conscience of powerless or corrupt people, to advice the leaders/ rulers - so as not to confuse or disillusion the people.
What the Sultans said was that they will abide by "a social contract" - they did not say that it was any different from the Federal Constitution. Sultan Azlan Shah never spoke of a post-independence Umno-style "social contract" - he specifically mentioned that the social contract he refers to is that of our founding fathers of "the pre-Independence" era, which culminated in the Federal Constitution. It is what I spoke of in my earlier post.
If the online journalists/ bloggers just back off without making an effort to interpret and articulate their thoughts on the matter, so as to create awareness & advance the cause, all would definitely be definitely lost.

Of course I understand the frustration they feel. However, being people whom the public look upon for leadership of sorts, they probably should keep those feelings to themselves and venture on - that's just my opinion, though.
I seriously doubt that RPK would've given up so easily, as it is precisely what the pirates want you to do. Only then can they perpetuate the plunder.....

"Let it be, we don't want any trouble. We have to appear to love what they give us. It's okay to lie to ourselves today for that meal and bed", say the anxious and virtuous "silent majority"....
The people (like smitten lovers) are taking comfort in the sweet nothings, drivel and lies spun out by the subservient MSM. "Most" want the "good times" to keep rolling through the NEP, even if it means sacrificing their future, humanity or their conscience.
They don't want to rock the "money" boat, when it comes to principles of humanity and nationhood. Bottomline is the tummy today - to hell with tomorrow .....
The little that they have is too precious to them. They are all looking towards self-preservation. They need to feed and educate their loved ones. They need to make a future for their children. They need their little escapes from reality - whatever they may be.

It is the perfect setting to breed "religious activism/escapism" among a disillusioned people. Ask Zulkifli Nordin - the thorn in PKR's side. He'll tell you that neither party want to appear "less Islamic", and would shudder at the prospect of losing out on "being Islamic" cool. That might explain the "anti-tomboy" fatwa of late.
People would seek solace in religion to revive the eroding "hope" - which can keep them going for yet another day. Should these guys "get out of hand", the authorities have a very good reason to impose "draconian measures" at their whims and fancies, to get the people to toe the line.
After all, it's for the peace & security of the nation, and Hamid Albar says,"People ask:“Show us how peace and security is threatened?” How can we show that?
It’s not something that is tangible, that we wait for the thing to happen".

It's like Minority Report the movie - but the Malaysia Boleh spirit puts Hollywood to shame with this reality show!

Whatever lah - I'll still reach for my little escape, whether Zul approves of it or not.
Where's the beer now .....

Don't Play-play !!

================================

YB Karpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor) was suspended for using the words "Jangan main-main. Yang DiPertua tidak serius ..."

Unlike previous occasions when "unparliamentary" words like "Bigfoot, monkey etc" were used, Pandikar got all emotional and upset!
- I thot he'd burst into a raging fit or even burst into tears .....
He must be under tremendous pressure in some way ....
He even got the section (under which he's authorised to take disciplinary action) a little mixed up!

Pandikar Amin (Kurang) Mulia said that Karpal was "Kurang Ajar" for saying that, and as a warning to all, he insisted on the suspension despite appeals from Anwar - as a "lesson to all MPs" that he's always serious (apparently, including the Ministers)!!

Waah - Pandikar Amin Mulia has grown fierce together with his new, cute, paintbrush designer beard!!

Don't play-play!!

We now Speak of The Federal Constitution - for ONCE!

========================
Perak Sultan: Explain social contract to young generation
TAIPING, Oct 22 – The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, today proposed that the social contract be explained at educational institutions to enable the young generation to have an in-depth understanding of the pre-independence agreement.
- TheMalaysianInsider
===================================================

First reading the above statement from HRH Sultan Azlan Shah, I (and I'm sure I'm not alone here ...) was disappointed that he was indulging in "Umno-Speak".
Upon reading it a second time, it struck me that what he said was very significant - he asks all of us to adhere by the consensus of our founding fathers who were part of the team that drafted the Federal Constitution!

Tuanku has made a very good statement here in subtly stating that the "Social Contract" as we know it from the BN goons doesn't exist!
Note the fact that he mentioned the words - "the pre-independence agreement".
That means what he actually recognizes as the "Social Contract"
IS THE FEDERAL CONSTITUTION!

He doesn't speak of the NEP, which did not exist then.

He specifically mentions what is meant by the words "Social Contract" - the agreement & spirit of the founding fathers that culminated in the Federal Constitution and the Declaration of Independance.
Therefore, the only Social Contract we have is the Federal Constitution!!

Having said that, all I can say is the Social Contact as Umno interprets it is HOGWASH.

Nobody disputes the fact that the underprivileged Malay need a helping hand. Nobody disputes that we need to preserve the Malay identity of the land. Nor has anybody challenged the authority of the Rulers (except Umno on a couple of occasions - including calling some "natang").

Anyway, for this message to be transmited to the young ones, how do we do it without getting rid of the racists who man BTN and the civil service?
How do we do it with Umno warlords in power, buying position & power like it were trinkets?

(The only answer to me at least is the dismantling of the BN racist regime!!)

Daulat Tuanku!!

Najib's cyber campaign?

The following were words in a lone comment in my earlier post.
(I'm certain that many other blogs have got the same comment too):-

"Malaysiakini has apologised and Najib is not suing. You see the difference between a true leader and the Theresa Koks of the Opposition.........

Now this is REAL proof that there is a concerted attempt by certain news portals and blogs to discredit Najib. They spread all sorts of lies about him and even called him names - from a cold-blood murderer to a Hindu priest.

Enough is enough. Why don't we just rally behind Najib for the love of our country? He has an uphill task of repairing the damages left behind by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. These are damages never before sustained by the Barisan Nasional in the country's entire 50-year history. And that's not going to be easy. "

.... and it came from a newly hatched blogger with two blogs to his name!
He however has only one entry, in one of them. He describes himself very well, in a very "graphic" manner too!

Well - going by his description of what he is HERE, (What else can we expect those who rally behind Najib to be ......)
Interested in joining him to
"just rally behind Najib for the love of our country? "

Any takers?

P.S.
This is definitely a brilliant (although uncouth) negative campaigning strategy ....

Social Contracts, Social Betrayals and NEP ....

==============================
Addendum From Bodohland:

After a While, The Sucking Comes Easy

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
An idea of a social contract draws from teleological thinking as opposed to a modern naturalistic view of sociocultural evolution.
A social contract is a hypothetical agreement between primitive, "unsocialized" people, who decided to form a society in order to avoid wars and violence, by instead creating specific rules - laws - that would organize the group life.
A notable founder of the social contract model, Thomas Hobbes, presents a totally rationalistic view on human nature, which is a main point of contemporary critique.

Sounds like the "betrayal" has got to many Malaysians ....
But how can one feel betrayed, if one never really trusted or loved the person who was supposedly the Judas? He was never meant to be trusted anyway.
If he were an institution upon which, benefits granted unto you rides on - he has done his job.
Judas was there for a reason, and history shows that he always does his job well ....

The voice of the people has been ignored & Petitions for justice came to naught - it is realpolitik at play.
Haris Ibrahim's last post (HERE) was sad, and I really feel for him (although I'm certain that he knew what was coming).
Civil society, with the help of politicians, have done much to create awareness that we are thankful for. RPK is incarcerated for this same spirit of justice.
RPK knew that the going wouldn't be easy, and they would fight back (and fight dirty).
It is now that leaders of civil society needs to rise to the challenge - and not let them break the spirit/ courage. If that is lost, so is the future to pirates.
Leaders & fighters who have the Nation in mind, cannot let the pirates win. Many things will crop up to break the spirit which RPK & DSAI has fought so hard to revive - the Spirit of Reform, Trust, Justice & Nationhood.

It definitely wasn't a coincidence that the special courts decided against the Yam Tuan prior to this announcement - it was probably meant to send a message to "those concerned" prior to current events.

There will be more "sandiwaras" to come - and it will all be designed to to show "who's the boss" & break the trust and spirit among the citizenry. It is just the attempt to create the sentiment of "helplessness" of civil society. Many will get disappointed that they are powerless to prevent the slide to corruption, "chaos" and the curtailment of liberties - which is what is needed for them to pursue this evil agenda. They'll sow distrust, inflame passions and breed hatred - so as to require barbaric/ "jahilliyah" laws like the ISA.

The Pirates will be playing up a number of issues in the coming days - sensitive or not - so as to divert our attention/ focus from the cause of justice and liberty.
They may create too many issues for us to focus on.
There may even be another "KMM/Al-Maunah" event orchestrated soon. (They already have a very convenient scapegoat in Hindraf after the recent banning anyway). Hindraf is described in the same breath as the above two (fictitious) groups and characterized as "extremist" in nature, when it was actually "the real extremists" who refused to consider Hindraf's repeated appeals for justice though formal/ appropriate channels.

They will have "allied parties" creating/ bringing "sensitive" controversies to the fore so as to heighten the prospect of "conflict" - while they party together in the backyard. There has to be an environment where fear dominates. Fear of dispossession, fear of conflict and fear of thy neighbour, with the haunting spectre of violence.
It is quite possible that things would be pushed to the "brink"(at least in the minds of the people) - so as to facilitate the agenda of piracy that they have in mind. The MSM, (like the sick Utusan Malaysia "cerpen") will of course play a major role to rile up emotions of a certain sector of society. But of course it would be considered fair game by "authorities".
Sectarian interests & conflicts will be given greater coverage in the near future ......

Politicians & Civil society need to start awareness campaigns for true "Malaysian Unity", as opposed to the window dressings on MSM. Civil society needs to reach out to "heartlanders" and those of the lower socio-economic strata - they are the key to "empowerment". Right now, they are the ones who are manipulated by the pirates who assume high office.

At the heart of all this, is the biggest lie told in 50 yrs to the Malaysians - the NEP, sold to the ignorant masses as "Social Contract" - and used as a pretext to plunder the resources of the Nation.
The "beneficiaries" of this evil form of Racism need to realize that they have been shortchanged. They need to realize that they have been reduced to servitude, despite all the chest-thumping "supremacy" rhetoric of their political kings/warlords/ masters/ "guardians".
The people need to realize that they are given mediocrity in return for surrendering their humanity & rights to pirates, while the nation is plundered.
Until and unless the "beneficiaries" reject this immorality which is bankrupting the nation while stripping them of their spirituality, conscience & dignity - there can be no progress towards Nationhood.

Politicians aren't angels, Power corrupts, & Governments don't serve the people - they rule, and serve only themselves - while crumbs are thrown to the masses. (There are rare exceptions, though)
The people are servants to governments. Anyone who says otherwise, is simply lying. The only way to keep a check on them is through decent education, awareness and civilian empowerment.
Once again, to all Malaysians (especially Haris) - Keep the Faith, and build the trust.

There's a long way to go - a long and windy road ......

Now does our world descend
The path to nothingness
(cruel now cancels kind;
friends turn to enemies)
Therefore lament,my dream
and don a doer's doom

Create is now contrive;
Imagined,merely know
(freedom:what makes a slave)
Therefore,my life,lie down
And more by most endure
All that you never were

Hide,poor dishonoured mind
Who thought yourself so wise;
And much could understand
Concerning no and yes:
If they've become the same
It's time you unbecame

Where climbing was and bright
Is darkness and to fall
(now wrong's the only right
since brave are cowards all)
Therefore despair,my heart
And die into the dirt

But from this endless end
Of briefer each our bliss--
Where seeing eyes go blind
(where lips forget to kiss)
There everything's nothing
-- Arise,my soul;and sing

Do Not Question "The Social Contract of The Federal Constitution"!! Do Question That of the "Pirates"!

A press statement released by the Conference of Rulers stated that:-
"It has to be emphasised that
each provision in the
Federal Constitution

has undergone the process of discussion, consideration, consultancy, sacrifice and compromise of the highest degree for what has been championed, discussed, considered, benefited from as well as agreed to by all quarters concerned, until the realisation of the
provisions in the Federal Constitution

which are "known as" the Social Contract.
"

Some may have been disappointed with the above.
Obviously, the racists and pirates would twist the words and
use it to propagate their fascist and pirate ideas,
so as to legitimize their actions.

"Known as" is the catch phrase here
- known to whom?
To those who drafted the Constitution pre-1957 or post 1963?
To the political parties who participated in the drafting?
To the post May 13, 1969 "unity Govt"/ "shotgun marriage" under Tun Razak?
Mahathir? Umno? MIC? MCA? BN?
Pakatan Rakyat? Bumiputras? All Malaysians?
Or Constitutional Experts?

If all parties agree with each other today on the "interpretation" of the Federal Constitution as a whole, with no dispute,
then "what is known as the Social Contract" is definitely acceptable.

What we have though, is a government that insists that
it is the only party that has the right to define
and amend the constitution as it sees fit
- and that is what the "Social Contract" is!
Look at what they have done - The judiciary is a mess.
And now, we have Zaki from UMNO - a JUNIOR judge,
fasttracked to become the the CJM!

The way I see it, this statement
REAFFIRMS that
The FEDERAL CONSTITUTION AS A WHOLE IS THE SOCIAL CONTRACT!
You UPHOLD THE SOCIAL CONTRACT,
If you ABIDE by the FEDERAL CONSTITUTION!

As a patriotic Malaysian, I'm all for that statement - Daulat Tuanku!

Nowhere in the statement,
does it state that the ISA, UUCA, PPPA, NEP,
"legalised subversion", twisted racists' interpretations/
manipulation, calling others "pendatang", creating ethnic divide, race politics,
subtle religious persecutions, religious bigotry, hate politics,
Kris waving, "Chinese" bloodlust, threats of May 13,
subtle death threats in Malay MSM in the form of "cerpen",
socio-economic apartheid, economic sabotage of opposition ruled states,
gerrymandering in elections
or the 600+ amendments to the constitution
is part of what is known as the
"Social Contract of the Federal Constitution".

Who's "questioning" and subverting
the Social Contract of the Federal Constitution, now?

So far, the Pakatan Rakyat has never sought to subvert,
but only to UPHOLD the Constitution.
They have only questioned the racists'/ bigots' interpretation
and subversion of the Spirit of the Social Contract
enshrined in the Federal Constitution!!

You do not have the luxury to pick and choose parts of it,
so as to twist its meaning and subvert the spirit in which it was drafted.

We the people call upon our Federal Goverment to
Uphold The Supremacy of
The Federal Constitution!
It is what the Rulers
and the people demand!!!

THAT IS NOT
"Questioning the Social Contract"!!!!
................................................................

The Following Is the press statement published in TheMalaysianInsider under the Heading -

Rulers: Do not question social contract

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 16 - The 215th meeting of the Conference of Rulers, held at the Istana Maziah here, today issued a special press statement on several matters enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

Following is the press statement in full issued by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Engku Tan Sri Ibrahim Engku Ngah. :

"Press Statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal on the role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers regarding the special privileges, position, eminence or greatness of the Malay Rulers, Islam, Malay as the national language, the special position of the Malays, and genuine interests of the other communities in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

"The Malay Rulers who attended the meeting of the Conference of Rulers conferred on the issuing of this special joint press statement today.

"The Malay Rulers hold the constitutional role to safeguard the special privileges, position, eminence and greatness of the Malay Rulers, safeguard Islam, Malay as the National Language, and the genuine interests of the other communities in Malaysia.

"The actions of certain quarters in disputing and questioning these matters, which formed the primary basis for the formation of Malaysia and are enshrined in the Federal Constitution, had caused provocation and uneasiness among the people.

In retaliation, several quarters particularly Malay leaders whether in the government or non-governmental organisations as well as individuals had expressed their dissatisfaction and anger against those who had made the statements and reports and organised the forums.

"Among the reasons identified for these to have occurred is the cursory knowledge of those concerned regarding the historical background as to why these provisions were enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the influence of their attempts to implicate the principles of impartiality and justice without regard for the historical background and social condition of this country.

Narrow political interests are also a cause.

"Unless this phenomenon is arrested immediately, it can lead to disunity and racial strife that can undermine the peace and harmony which has all this while brought progress, development and success to the nation.

"As such, it is necessary for the Conference of Rulers to emphasise and remind all quarters of these constitutional provisions besides giving emphasis to the assurance of safeguarding the genuine rights of other communities.

It has to be emphasised that each provision in the Federal Constitution has undergone the process of discussion, consideration, consultancy, sacrifice and compromise of the highest degree for what has been championed, discussed, considered, benefited from as well as agreed to by all quarters concerned, until the realisation of the provisions in the Federal Constitution which are known as the Social Contract.

It is not proper to dispute and question this Social Contract and more so to subject it to a review or change because it is the primary basis of the formation of Malaysia.

Therefore, it is appropriate for the Malay Rulers to remind that there should never be any attempt ever to test and challenge issues related to the Social Contract.

"Truly, the leaders of the pre-independence era were insightful - far-sighted. They brought along with them the Malay Rulers for the negotiations to claim independence.

The Institution of the Rulers was retained and legally enshrined in the constitution of an independent Malaysia.

The Institution of the Rulers was accorded eminence, was positioned at the apex of Government, as the head of the country and the states, as a protective umbrella, ensuring impartiality among the citizens.

The Institution of Rulers takes on the role of being a check-and-balance factor to untangle complications, if any.

"The Conference of Rulers also calls on the Malays to be united to safeguard the privileges, position, eminence and greatness of the Malay Rulers, safeguard Islam, Malay as the national language, and the genuine interests of the other communities in Malaysia as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

It has to be emphasised that this agenda is more important and foremost than political or factional interests.

"Non-Malays should not harbour any apprehension or worry over their genuine rights because these rights are guaranteed under the Federal Constitution and provisions of the state constitutions of Malaysia contained in Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.

"It is hoped that with this emphasis, all confusion among the people regarding these matters can be contained and an atmosphere of peace, harmony and mutual respect can continue to exist among the people for the maintenance of order in the country."

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, attended the meeting today.

His Majesty was accompanied by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The two-day meeting, which ended today, was chaired by the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

All the Rulers and Yang Dipertuas Negeri attended the meeting except the Rulers of Pahang, Johor, Terengganu, Perlis and Negeri Sembilan.

The Sultan of Pahang was represented by the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah; the Sultan of Johor by the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar; the Sultan of Terengganu by the President of the Regency Advisory Council Raja Tengku Sri Panglima Raja Tengku Baderulzaman Sultan Mahmud.

The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan by the Regent of Negeri Sembilan, Tunku Naquiyuddin Ibni Tuanku Ja'afar; and the Raja of Perlis by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.

Also present were the menteris besar and chief ministers except the Sarawak chief minister who was represented by State Planning and Resource Management Minister II Datuk Seri Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Engku Tan Sri Ibrahim Engku Ngah, said matters related to defence, security, the national economy, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships, and proposals on the appointment of the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Judge of Malaya were discussed at the meeting. - Bernama
