BN Grabs the Silver State's "Jewels"!!!

To all who read the earlier post, I apologize for it - but it was what Astro Awani reported.
Thanks to Najib and his Umno/BN buddies ...........

I was never one for this image above image of the flag, because I believed (once) that weren't "there" yet. Well, times change, people change, and as such, depending on circumstances, opinions change as well.

It was heartbreaking to see the smug look on Najib, who was blushing & beaming so shamelessly over this travesty of justice, while making his press statement. He either doesn't realize that it makes him hated even more than ever, or just doesn't give a rat's ass for the feelings of the electorate. I'd bet on the latter, rather than the former anyways.
He however, has yet to meet DYMM Sultan Azlan Shah (officially, at least). Hopefully His Highness is aware that the legacy and reputation he leaves behind hinges on this one decision he'll be making.

BN definitely has manged to subvert the politics of Perak, used the EC to overrule the Speaker of the State Assembly, and used "very convincing" methods to win over traitors to the cause. The face of the DAP rep probably speaks volumes ....

If the assembly is dissolved, the decision of which has been deferred, one can't help wondering if Perakians love having their "Jewels" fondled or held in a vice grip by "U-know-Who".
Let's hope that all these wouldn't lead to any trouble ......

Tomorrw, there will be a Program Munajat dan Perhimpunan Rakyat Menyokong MB Perak Dato Seri Nizar, at 7pm at the MB's residence. It is hoped that Perakians will give their full support at this event.

God Bless Malaysia - she's definitely in Distress!!

ASSEMBLY DISSOLVED - ELECTIONS IN PERAK!!!

ON ASTRO AWANI:
MB DATO SERI NIZAR ANNOUNCED THAT THE STATE ASSEMBLY IS DISSOLVED - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!!
PERAK WILL BE HAVING ELECTIONS, AND GIVING UMNO/BN A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY!!

NOW LETS SEE HOW DEEP THE POCKETS ARE - WHAT MORE, WITH THE UMNO "ELECTIONS" COMING UP. IT WILL BE REAL FUN TO WATCH HOW THEY HANDLE THEMSELVES NOW .....

MY ONLY WORRY IS THE POTENTIAL OF "ACTIVITIES" WHICH MAY BE TRIGGERED BY CERTAIN "SUBVERSIVES" WHO MAY BE OUT OF POWER - THESE GUYS WORK BY DESTABILIZING THE COUNTRY, SO THAT THEY CAN "NECESSITATE" AN EMERGENCY, AND SUSPEND PARLIAMENT ......

THIS TIME, UMNO IS GONNA BITE THE DUST - REAL BAD- IN PERAK .....

DISSOLVE THE PERAK STATE ASSEMBLY, NIZAR!!!

UPDATE: Jamaluddin quits PKR to be independent
Here's a song dedicated to Mr. Jamaludin who probably hasn't lost
the "art of delivering to various destinations" since his postman days ...

Perak gives 48 hour ultimatum for EC to reverse decision

EC: No by-election for Behrang, Changkat Jering

With the Bota crossover, the PR Govt of Perak survives on a wafer-thin majority of a single seat. The BN, having an extremely large war-chest with their ill-gotten wealth, can now up the ante, to grab a few more "independants" to their side.

The PR meanwhile will be faced with a war of attrition which will wear down the confidence of this fledgling electoral pact, and severely test the loyalties of the representatives.
The shaky Perak Government needs more credibility to govern, if they want to make a real difference - or they'll only make fools of themselves throughout the coming term.
With the "instruments of state" practically waging war on them, they would be severely disadvantaged, in governing. Moreover, should they not perform their role well ( and it is certain that that they cannot), the odds will be stacked against them in the next elections, come 2012.

Hope PR sees the benefits of a dissolving the assembly, as opposed to holding on to a shaky Govt, while being suckers for "crossovers" - or even maybe even getting suckered real soon.
This election would also irreversibly dent (maybe even punch deep holes) NTR's already tattered credibility in the upcoming "transition" in the Umno-BN feudal/fascist regime.
Perak is a "feather in the cap" which NTR desperately needs to shore up his "image".
The only way to beat him in his game is to call for a new round of elections!!

So I hope Nizar/Anwar/LKS/Hadi do the right thing
- Dissolve the Assembly!!

To Those Rendered "Ambivalent" about ISA By DSP Ong ....

*****************************************************
“Fear always springs from ignorance”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

"It will not do to cling to the cause and wish the result away.
Reality does not play mind games.
What is more, to anesthetize the mind in order to abort what comes to birth
when wrong ideas are conceived and borne in the womb of culture,
will only kill the very life-giving force of the nation that nurtures the idea."
- Ravi Zacharias
*********************************************
Lately there have been some posts by bloggers who appear to have been able to "understand" the "need" for the ISA, and now start asking that the ISA simply "not be abused". Thanks to DSP Ong for that. He must have been pretty convincing in his argument for "Fear & Ignorance", and it makes me wish I was there to talk with him at Lotus last Sunday (but of course, I saw him there & walked away, as he was just "doing his job" with Del Capo and others).
PatLu posted "No to ISA or Stop Abusing the ISA?" , and DelCapo posted "PJ Candle light vigil - sbotted" to express their opinions. The "soft touch" & TLC of PDRM appear to be making some inroads - or so it seems ... but then again, it may have just been a "PR" exercise by PatLu & DelCapo.
So, here's to you guys, and others who might be ambivalent about it:-

It's sad, and I find it strange that some of you guys have changed your stance from "No ISA" to "Stop Abusing The ISA", after just one conversation with a "security personnel".
There is however a certain level of "ambivalence", I notice.
Maybe it was the "convincing arguments" brought about in the discussions with DSP Ong .... and the fact that he has managed to impress his ignorance upon others quite well, based on the "fear" factors which are used to justify it. Contrary to what many believe, it isn't the batons and bullets that is their greatest weapon against the people - It is this "fear factor"!

Believe me - I understand those sentiments quite well, for I once belonged to that boat. However, after an online "debate" with RPK, months of thought and much writing to articulate them, the "spins" and feeble excuses (not "reasons", okay) from the "security personnel"/politicians (and staged events of the past) don't convince me - not one bit, that it is necessary!
What we need is education and accountability - not laws to "keep the peace". Without the former, we end up with goons to fill in the places of intellectuals who should be running the country. What we are experiencing today in Malaysia is the result of "anti-intellectualism" that has been in practise since the 80s, and I'll bet on it that 75% of the lawmakers in office don't know the Federal Constitution.
It is for this very reason that we see the current crop of leaders who shamelessly flout the Federal Constitution with impunity, and find supporters among rakyat.

I'll try to make it simple - no amount of legislation or security personnel will guarantee you the "safety" which they promise, through these "violations" of fundamental human rights. A society that lives in fear and ignorance knows no "Law", nor do they respect or understand the need for it. In fact, they also don't know their rights, and hence make demands or do things that are "deemed acceptable" by those in authority. This sets the stage for open conflict, and hence the "the need" for laws that strip them of their rights.
Do you see the pattern/series of events for ISA/Police Act to make itself "necessary" and unaccountable?

The ISA, is the ISA - the same can be said of the Police Act. It was assured by our early leaders (Razak), that it would be abused, and only used on "insurgents & terrorist" prevalent at that time. However, the "sunset clause" as with all other forms of "restrictions have been deliberately left out so as to enable it to be used "subject to interpretation".
With the "modifications" that you might suggest, they aren't what we oppose anymore.

The issue here isn't just the ISA, actually - it also encompasses the Police Act, which is unconstitutional and violates the tenets of fundamental human rights.
There will be plenty of arguments for the "ISA" based on speculation & presumption. DSP Ong must definitely be an intelligent man - wish I had the opportunity to spend some time with him the other day.
To those who are "ambivalent", I take it that you guys have read the Federal Constitution and the ISA 1960/ Police Act 1967 in full against the backdrop of Universal Declaration of Human Rights ......
Maybe when somebody is arrested for eating "kuaci" at Lotus - an act that might be deemed a "threat to national seciruty" for whatever reason by our HM, you might understand that it is a law that begs to be abused.

Cheers, guys!

Zahid Hamidi - Enlighten Yourself!!!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
“Don’t play with fire and challenge the Muslims.
We are willing to do anything to protect our religion.”

- Zahid Hamidi
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Lately, I had a discussion with a casual acquaintance (who I later learnt, was an Ustaz who teaches tafsir Al-Qur'an) .... Just in case "someone" decides to ask, sorry- I don't recollect his name.
I asked him if Muslims actually understood what they read, when they learned to read & recited the Qur'an. His very frank reply actually took me by surprise - he claimed that many actually "fear to understand the words they read, lest they misinterpret & and are damned for it". So, to "solve the problem", they apparently leave it to the ulama to do the job of interpreting/ understanding it - and very few actually bother to read translations!!!
This sounds exactly like what RPK said some time back, when he wrote quite a bit about "muslim" behavioural patterns in Malaysia - but of course, it was often regarded as "insulting Islam" by the likes of many an Umno warlord ...

Now - Zahid claims that the Christians have been "challenging" the Muslims!!
Isn't this the most ignorant thing to come out of one who claims to be a leader? That too, one that claims to be doing it to "defend" Islam!!

Zahid can shove his "fire" up where the sun don't shine, for all I care - it may provide some enlightenment, presuming that it's where his grey matter resides ....

While many of those of other religions know quite a bit about Islam and make efforts to learn more about Islam, its philosophy, culture & mores, how much has the UMNO?BN government done to learn & understand about other religions & their history?
As far as I know, they've done little or none - and it is this ignorance that we see people like Hamid Albar & Zahid Hamidi shamelessly advertizing with such boldness!! It is people like these that give a very bad image for Islam & Muslims in general.

As far as I know even the Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) said that "people of the book" worship ALLAH! (Correct me if I'm wrong).
It appears that Umno disputes this fact!!

How come BN hypocrites/munafiqs are making pronouncements on this issue?
Isn't it "SUB-JUDICE" to do so?
They were so good at not commenting on other issues becos it was "sub-judice" - why is it okay now?
Shouldn't they be reprimanded by the courts?

BN is so hard up for some conflict in Malaysia that they stir up religious sentiments out of nothing.
They just wanna show that they are the so-called "defenders of Islam".
They want to suspend Parliament a la 513, and impose emergency. The corrupt aristocrats of Umno are unable to change their ways, and seek to perpetuate their plunder by taking away rights, & imposing greater control over the people.

The houses of worship are the last bastions of freedom for the people - Umno has succesfully trampled on every other institution and have managed to control & corrupt them!

Rest assured, BN - if you insist on provoking Sikhs & Christians with this Allah issue, they will be campaigning hard against you (along with all other regardless of race & religion in PAS, DAP & PKR) till the next GE, and till UMNO is dead & gone!!
Not that they wouldn't otherwise - but at least there will be room to doubt that this will occur, if they refrain from their politics of racism, religious bigotry, fear & intimidation.

As much as I'd like to, maybe I shouldn't say what the Holy Qur'an says about this - lest I offend some people like Hamid or Zahid. So,Below is an article on this issue, which was written under the supervision of Sheikh Salman B. Fahd Al-Qadah

God's Name: Non-Muslims Calling the Creator "Allah"
Prepared by the Research Committee of IslamToday

The name "Allah" is the Arabic word that refers to the one true God who created the heavens and the Earth – the God of all the Prophets from Adam to Noah to Abraham to Moses to Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

The word Allah comes from the Arabic word “ilâh” meaning “deity, god, divine being” combined with the definite article “al”. Put together, they make “al-Ilâh” or literally “the God” which is then elided together as “Allah”.

Essentially, "Allah" is the literal Arabic equivalent to the English word "God" with a capital "G" while the Arabic word "ilâh" is the literal equivalent of the English word "god" with a lower-case "g".

The Qur'ân uses the name Allah consistently when referring to the message of all of the prophets and to the various beliefs of all of the people.

Even when the Qur'ân quotes people of other religions saying false things about the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the word Allah is used.

We have, for example, where certain Jews are quoted as saying: "And the Jews say: 'The hand of Allah is tied up!' Their hands shall be shackled, and may they be cursed for what they say. Nay, both His hands are spread out, He bestows as He pleases." [Sûrah al-Mâ'idah: 64]

We have the Christian doctrine of the trinity conveyed in the following verse: "They surely disbelieve who say: 'Lo! Allah is the third of three' when there is no god but the One Allah. If they desist not from so saying a painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve." [Sûrah al-Mâ'idah: 73]

We also have in the Qur'ân: "And the Jews say: 'Ezra is the son of Allah', and the Christians say: 'The Messiah is the son of Allah'." [Sûrah al-Tawbah: 30]

These verses are in Arabic and use the Arabic name Allah. The fact that the Qur'ân does not shy away from using this word even when it speaks about the falsehood of the people of unbelief shows that the name "Allah" is truly universal, and can be used by anyone to refer to the true Creator of the heavens and the Earth.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) always referred to God as Allah when he discussed the beliefs of the Jews and Christians with him. They did so as well.

We have the challenge between the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the Christians of Najran about their false belief in the divinity of Christ. The Arabs of Najran were Arab and were certainly speaking Arabic.

We read in the Qur'ân where Allah commands His Messenger: “If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge hath come to thee, Say: Come! Let us gather together, our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: then let us earnestly pray. And invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie.” [Sûrah Âl-`Imrân: 61]

The people of Arabia all referred to the Creator of the heavens and the Earth as "Allah", whether they were Jews, Christians, or pagans. This is the reason why, in pre-Islamic times, many people of all three faiths already carried the name `Abd Allah.

They included the Prophet's father `Abd Allah b. `Abd al-Muttalib who died before the Prophet (peace be upon him) was born, as well as the Prophet's cousin `Abd Allah b. Abî Umayyah who only accepted Islam shortly before the conquest of Mecca.

They included the prominent Jewish rabbi of Madinah, `Abd Allah b. Salâm, who became one of the most eminent of the Prophet's Companions. Of course, he had been given the name `Abd Allah by his Jewish family long before Islam.

The measures that have recently been taken in some countries to bar non-Muslims from referring to God as "Allah" in their religious publications are quite unfortunate. The publications is question are ones written in languages where the name used for the Creator of the heavens and the Earth is the name "Allah".

The purpose behind these restrictive measures is the fear that those publications will confuse Muslims who speak those languages and who might read those publications. Be that as it may, the confusion on a global scale which is being caused by the restriction is far worse.

Islamic workers who try convey the message of Islam to Jews and Christians have been struggling against the widely held belief idea that the god of the Muslims is some exotic deity other than the one who sent Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all). It has been a long and uphill effort. These recent measures in some countries to ban non-Muslims form using the name Allah have resulted in confirming and entrenching those false suspicions among non-Muslims.

It is the duty of Muslims today to redouble their efforts to teach the people of the world that there is only one true God who created the heavens and the Earth; that all of the prophets and messengers were sent by Him with the same essential teaching: to worship the Creator alone and not set up partners with Him; that Allah is the God of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus– and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

And Allah knows best.

BOLEHLAND COP'S QUOTE OF THE DAY!!!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
"...Don't expect us to remand all of them
without first conducting an investigation,"
-Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, 'We have to investigate first' , NST
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

One more "brownie point" for Khalid!!
Very "educational" - Never knew that the police were so "judicious" in remanding murder suspects ....

The "foot in mouth syndrome" epidemic which has plagued many an Umno/BN warlord appears to be spreading real fast - and he's probably been been terminally infected with it ever since the arrest of the peaceful vigil participants on 911!!!
The disease must be spreading to his higher centres and appears to have muddled his "faculties" - hence his numerous poor judgements & "faux-pas" since.

This is the most "Hairan Al-Amazing bin Pelik Al-Bodoh" quote coming from a copper!
That too, in cases that have been classified as MURDER 'ONE' (alright .... maybe it's two)!!! - by none other than out very own Attorney General!!
Can you imagine having criminals running around un-remanded while "investigations" are being carried out?
Okay .... they may not be running around - just "reassigned to desk jobs" - I'm sure the Malaysian public, Amnesty International and the International community will be so "proud" of PDRM for their righteousness, efficiency and transparency in their relentless pursuit of law enforcement .....

We all know that the Police forces collect information to be used in a public court to get people convicted. Security services gather information that does not necessarily lead to people being prosecuted and in many cases needs to remain confidential.
However, in a case which is of public interest, and MURDER at that, isn't a remand order at least in order?

Let us all be sure of one thing- no amount of increase in the Police force will enforce law & order, if there is a lack of ethics and justice within force (in carrying out their duties). It breeds nothing but resentment among the people whom they have sworn to protect, and robs the force of the respect that is due to them. As such, they unwittingly become the enemy of the society.
It breeds terrorism, when they who are entrusted to protect have lost the respect and confidence they need.

Paul Bremer, a foolish American top civilian administrator of post-war Iraq, once said,
"There are 40,000 Iraqi police on duty around the country. If they detect an attack about to happen, the police are the ones who are supposed to stop it"
.
By shutting down a tiny newspaper, Bremer created an enemy instead of buying the loyalty of Iraqis and turned Sadr, a little-respected junior cleric with a limited following, into an overnight hero to restive Shias, and a new American villain.
We all know what followed ....
A similar situation unfolded in Southern Thailand after the quelling of what was supposedly a "Muslim uprising" - that became the beginning of the end for Thaksin ....
It would be a little out of line for me to suggest anything pertaining to the Umno/BN regime (in light of the events which have unfolded in Malaysia of late), and as such, I shall refrain from speculation.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

When you have police officers who abuse citizens,
you erode public confidence in law enforcement.
That makes the job of good police officers unsafe.
-Mary Frances Berry
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan - I believe, Khalid has been a little "stressed out" for some time now (incidentally, since 911), and may need a "holiday".
Hope you do the right thing, Sir.

RRA? Come on - Gimme a break!!

** The Govt never intended to introduce an RRA in the first place.
It was simply posturing for posterity and politicking.
It was an idea which would have hit a brick wall right from the start - as it runs against the great "discriminatory
social contract spirit" of the Umno/BN regime, which practices "legalized extortion" and subtle forms of "dhimmitude".
For those who might've been hoodwinked into believing the apparent intentions of the Umno/BN regime (and are disappointed), I suggest that they wake up they sweet dreams,
and smell the "septic tank under the carpet" - the NEP legacy ......

We don't need and never did need the RRA
- what we need is an Anti-Discrimination Act!!
The following is an article by James Chin in Malaysian Insider - which states the obvious:-

Go on, insult your neighbour!

JAN 28 — Were you surprised that the Cabinet scrapped the proposed Race Relations Act (RRA)? According to Bernama, the minister said the idea was dropped because "we don't have to unite the various races through the enforcement of laws, on the contrary, the community should be educated not only at the adult stage but at a much younger age. This will be more effective".

He further added: "There is no element of force in our efforts to inculcate unity, the spirit of solidarity should be nurtured among the young people. There must be willingness in the feeling of love for others instead of using force."

Now I don't know about you but I'm guessing that the reason why the RRA was dropped is probably the same reason why Malaysia cannot ratify (or sign) the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This convention is one of the oldest UN conventions presented to the UN general assembly in 1966.

Under article two, it states:

1. Each State Party to the present Covenant undertakes to respect and to ensure to all individuals within its territory and subject to its jurisdiction the rights recognised in the present Covenant, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

2. Where not already provided for by existing legislative or other measures, each State Party to the present Covenant undertakes to take the necessary steps, in accordance with its constitutional processes and with the provisions of the present Covenant, to adopt such laws or other measures as may be necessary to give effect to the rights recognised in the present Covenant.

3. Each State Party to the present Covenant undertakes:

(a) To ensure that any person whose rights or freedoms as herein recognised are violated shall have an effective remedy, notwithstanding that the violation has been committed by persons acting in an official capacity;

(b) To ensure that any person claiming such a remedy shall have his right thereto determined by competent judicial, administrative or legislative authorities, or by any other competent authority provided for by the legal system of the State, and to develop the possibilities of judicial remedy;

(c) To ensure that the competent authorities shall enforce such remedies when granted."

Now, in Malaysia, we have the infamous NEP and affirmative action policies plus other regulations which come into conflict with this international convention. Some of these policies may be judged to be racial discrimination. Malaysians do not enjoy the full political rights granted under this convention so that is the reason why the government cannot sign it.

Connected to this international convention is the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) another United Nations convention. The Convention commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of understanding among all races. The convention was adopted by in 1965, and entered into force on Jan 4, 1969. As of June 2, 2008, the Convention has been signed by 173 countries but not Malaysia.

The convention states that:

"Considering that the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 20 November 1963 (General Assembly resolution 1904 (XVIII)) solemnly affirms the necessity of speedily eliminating racial discrimination throughout the world in all its forms and manifestations and of securing understanding of and respect for the dignity of the human person,

Convinced that any doctrine of superiority based on racial differentiation is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust and dangerous, and that there is no justification for racial discrimination, in theory or in practice, anywhere,

Reaffirming that discrimination between human beings on the grounds of race, colour or ethnic origin is an obstacle to friendly and peaceful relations among nations and is capable of disturbing peace and security among peoples and the harmony of persons living side by side even within one and the same State,

Convinced that the existence of racial barriers is repugnant to the ideals of any human society,

Alarmed by manifestations of racial discrimination still in evidence in some areas of the world and by governmental policies based on racial superiority or hatred, such as policies of apartheid, segregation or separation,

Resolved to adopt all necessary measures for speedily eliminating racial discrimination in all its forms and manifestations, and to prevent and combat racist doctrines and practices in order to promote understanding between races and to build an international community free from all forms of racial segregation and racial discrimination"

Need I say more? Since we have not signed any of these convention it’s perfectly okay in Malaysia to insult your neighbour using their ethnic status. Hence there are plenty of racial jokes here that you can repeat; from calling other Malaysians "pendatang" to "Go back to India" to "Go back to China" to "when you see a snake and … who do you kill first?" Who cares about the Sedition Act since it is applied selectively.

It’s also okay to have laws and regulations that divide the population into two halves and you can have 1st class Malaysians, 2nd class Malaysians and so on. You can also divide the country according to the various religions and so on.

In fact you can discriminate in all areas of life and we Malaysians do it all the time. Discrimination is now part and parcel of Malaysian culture so much so that we even write jokes about it.

Thus, for those middle-class pretenders who are fighting for RRA to be adopted in Malaysia, I can only wish you good luck. If the government has no intention of signing international conventions on discrimination and social and political rights, I doubt it will accept RRA.
