In a reply to an Anonymous commenter who did well to comment in a previous piece, Just a Flawed Argument....... , I mentioned the following:

"we cannot afford to pander to the very same primitive ideas that appeal to the "lowest common denominators",- the "flight ot fight" mentality...... to get defensive and charge others of "wrongdoing", when valid questions are posed, and reasonable answers can be sought".

Moving on .....
While PR did well to kick off the reform agenda by taking advantage of the circumstances, they have failed to articulate their ideas and present themselves as a cohesive force to be reckoned with. It once again points to the intellectual/philosophical bankruptcy which plagues PR just as much as it does BN. Each one of them have retreated into their own worlds - oblivious to the bigger issues that plague the nation. Sectarian interests provoked by BN doesn't make things any easier for them.

Tian Chua has not helped much when he has taken to playing the spin doctor, by claiming that these public spats are "the glue that binds". Does he mean to say that PKR can play "their role" as the "glue" while the other two parties slug it out tactlessly? They do not seem to see the need to have a common platform, with an image of unity - to allay the fears of a jittery people, accustomed to "order" and authoritarian leadership.

They have been prone to being reactionary, putting out bushfires systematically lit by BN, that easily burn out of control and reveals their weaknesses. The consistent attacks that they have been faced with, have appeared to have unnerved this disparate electoral pact that Pakatan Rakyat is.

They themselves (PKR, PAS, & DAP) seem to be victims of the social engineering & indoctrination of Umno's NEP. They still think and act along sectarian lines, highlighting petty differences of opinion, each catering to their own horde of supporters - while conveniently playing into the hands of Umno. While DAP seems to be reeling with the image & media war that Umno has waged on it, PAS and PKR are riddled with opportunists & trojans from the "Umno discontents club". And yet, these parties make selfish public statements that erode their image in the eyes of the electorate.

Umno knows this only too well, and is now depending on their fat wallets & the "experience bank" to scuttle all attempts by Pakatan to appear to be a viable alternative. Being master at the sectarian politics and social engineering, they are quite adept at playing the game of perception. They could have stolen the elections at Manik Urai, but chose not to - instead, they wanted to change perceptions by having PAS win it, and yet "prove" that in a PAS stronghold, they have managed to sway opinion. They keep lighting the bushfires that burn out of control within an undisciplined Pakatan Rakyat and scuttle the administrations of the Pakatan states.

Emboldened by the apparently powerlessness of the rakyat in protesting Umno's unconstitutional coup d'etat in Perak, Najib has openly declared his desire for Selangor - the "crown jewel". That would of course explain the harassment from the MACC which Khalid has been faced with, while PKFZ & Istana Toyol looms large in the background - Teoh Beng Hock was simply "collateral damage". The situation has got so bad for Khalid, that Mahathir too has implied that the Pakatan govt will soon fall.
Umno is now on an offensive, and they are aggressive at that. The innuendos are that they are willing to go the full length - no matter what it takes. The only way they see is to whip up more racist sentiments and to "flex some state-sponsored muscles" to feed their egos.
They want Askar Wataniah in each Parliamentary constituency.
They are hell bent on charging someone in Pakatan for corruption.
They have a two-faced campaign of "1-Malaysia" campaign, where they speak of "perjuangan Melayu" (aka "Ketuanan Melayu"). They call others traitors to the Malay race.
They call on people to "rise" against the non-Malays through their Utusan Melayu. And yet they praise the Chinese for this and that, and tell "nandri" & "vanakkam" to the Tamilians of Batu Caves.
They want "commando training" for their youth. They want Selangor.

The best part is, there are among the non-Malays in MCA[click on image for report from Sun] & MIC who clamour for the role of ball-carrier and running dog - all for the money that lies within.
To make matters worse, RPK has declared that the Barisan Rakyat Bloggers will be campaigning against voting for either BN or Pakatan - campaigning for "spoilt votes"!! This, because Pakatan Rakyat has abandoned the People's Declaration which was what helped them in they pursuit of power.
The way I look at it, that means, one might as well campaign for a boycott of the elections - which I had once advocated. Today though, I believe such an attitude defeats the purpose of casting in the first place. Permatang Pasir, being Anwar's stronghold, should have a big voter turnout - so an act of abstinence would automatically translate to a protest.

So what have we here?
The people are told that they have a Catch-22 situation, wherein on one side Pakatan Rakyat isn't showering them with deliveries of promises in less than 2 years,
and Umno on the other, who is perceived to plunder and rape. They are told that Pakatan Rakyat is "hopelessly lost". They are told that they are screwed if you do, screwed if you don't.
They are now told that they have to chicken out from teaching Umno/BN a lesson.
It is now time to teach the little child a big lesson- by taking away his lollipop, while handing the gold to the pirate.
They are now told - Retreat into your tempurungs, just like the component parties of Pakatan Rakyat have thus far - hang these recalcitrant leadership of Pakatan, while those who hope to make a change, despair.

We really do need to remind them and convince them to adopt it (The People's Declaration) as their manifesto in a formal alliance - and get cracking once again .....

Unconventional Methods To Prevent Influenza

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Avoiding masturbation and homosexual activities are among preventive measures one could take against Influenza A (H1N1), according to an eminent practitioner of complimentary therapy.

It appears that BN under the "leadership" of Najib & Muhyiddin have tasted blood after the last Manik Urai elections. Word is that they are willing to go for broke this time around - and not in Permatang Pasir which is just small keropok. While the people & PR campaign machinery is busy with the distraction of Permatang Pasir - the BN state machinery will apparently intensify their campaign in Selangor. And they want it at all costs. So far they have only been indulging in "vandalism" by creating as many bushfires as possible, while the clueless PR guys play catch up in their administrative skills.

They are after Selangor - the crown jewel and goldmine of any Party.
Najib has to consolidate his position and show that he can emulate all his BN predecessors (save Pak Lah, la) - he needs to show the Machiavellian streak which the unthinking Umno hordes beg for and it appears that he isn't gonna spare any punches.
He will soon declare open war on the people's choice by using the state apparatus at his disposal. We all know what our "anti-graft buster" (as described by our MSM) botched it up with Teoh Beng Hock. Let's see what they do next ....

Just a Flawed Argument......

There appears to be a moral dilemma in NEP which many don't seem to see, and the question is simple -"Is it alright to cheat, if you cannot compete?"
In the last two updates, this question was "posed" (although not explicitly) - where a case of "cheating/manipulation" was perpetrated, and it was justified by saying that it was done to beat the competition in its own game - albeit without the help of "handicaps".
This was mentioned by RPK, and it was his way to rationalize that he does not need the NEP to survive.
The following are two quotes from the two articles on No Holds Barred :-

Actually, the NEP is still there only partly because of Umno’s manipulation. The other reason it is still there is because the Chinese have demonstrated that they look down on the Malays and without the NEP the Chinese would have smashed the Malays to smithereens.

All he's saying is that he "cheated" by sabotaging his competition to get ahead - never mind the consequences. All those who questioned RPK's assertion that he did not depend on the NEP are deemed "racists" - even if they just questioned the methods of awarding the tenders.

To RPK's "deviousness" and business acumen, I say - Bravo!!
It is quite easy to understand RPK's simplistic logic here.
It's business, and it is "war" - and all's fair in love and war, right? After all, realistically speaking, that is definitely the case - and NEP is just another form of "cheating" by the Malay elite, when the Chinese Chambers of Commerce (or the like) do a similar form "monopoly" through their "networking" prowess.

However it (this argument) is definitely wrong- especially when you seek to be a proponent of an ideal. RPK's argument against the NEP was deeply flawed. When one wishes to make an argument or brag about success a "level playing field" in marketing- it has to be based on the merit of one's services/ products and its feasibility or after sales services.

Without a doubt - RPK succeeded in manipulating circumstances and achieved his success "without the help of the NEP" in marketing the product. The way I look at it, RPK was in a very subtle manner, actually justifying the NEP as a valid form of competition - by manipulating the "market". This success that RPK speaks of was not due to the cost-effectiveness or a proven track-record of the product, but rather based on the premise that - "If I think you're playing dirty, I'll play dirtier".

So if the dirtier businessman wins with no regard for the methods used, it is definitely a valid success!!! So it is with the NEP - the only problem is, in NEP, the "dirty" businessman turns out to be a beggar for more "dirty deals" and easy money.

I do not presume to say that what RPK did was "wrong" as such - as he was faced with a juggernaut. It was a David and Goliath story - and david decided to use a missile against the sword & shield. However, that should not have been the argument against the NEP. Two wrongs don't make a right. The way I look at it, he should have argued his case by saying that he managed to prove that his product was superior, value for money, had better after sales service or more cost effective despite the "inferior" quality - and so he won.

Moving on to the NEP per se - RPK had a very valid sentiment in saying that many Chinese (or others) do not see Malay competition as being worthy of respect. The problem here is in "perception" - businesses are viewed as "Malay", "Chinese" or "Indian" or "Japanese". Why isn't a business viewed as just that - a business?
And why can't these businesses compete as just that?
It is simply due to the fact that we have institutions catering to race-based businesses - Indian, Malay, Chinese associations for businesses, education, sports, entertainment, religion and politics. This exists everywhere in the world as people tend to seek "common ground" to form alliances in business.

In Malaysia though, blatant racism in institutionalized for the benefit of a small group of people with political clout. It is the system that breeds racism and polarisation, which eventually confines people to their own business/educational/social ghetto. So when a business is successful, that community is thumping its chest with empty pride, even if it had nothing to do with racism, but everything to do with excellence.
So it was with RPK - he viewed UMW as a "Chinese business" although it had within it enough "bumi" hotshots, who were simply rent-seekers/ pirates who increased the operating costs, and so were increasing the cost of the end product for consumers - the poor fishermen.

So logically speaking, reducing the 6-7% of the profit margin shouldn't have been much of a deal for the businessman- RPK would probably have lost out had there not been pirates within UMW who pushed up costs by about 10% ....... But then again, Pete - it was a job well done.
Congrats - but for gottsakes, use a better argument next time!!

P.S.
It is sad that people seem to keep seeing things from the same perspective all the time.
They even want to play the same game, even if they knew that their competition has a wealth of resources in playing the game - and as such become underdogs. Then when they become the underdogs, they cry foul about the "tilted playing field" and ask for "affirmative action".
It should be somehow possible to simply start a new game - wherein perceptions change, and the old rules of sectarian alliances and prejudice cannot apply anymore.....

1. Apabila sahaja saya kalah dalam pilihanraya pada tahun 1969, maka A"komunis" pun mengamuk. Saya pun mula menghasut penduduk Kampung Baru untuk mengadakan tunjuk perasaan jalanan. Isunya apanama .... saya tersengaja lupa.

2. Walaupun saya bukan pengasas demonstrasi jalanan tetapi sejak saya memasuki politik, taktik memperalat orang untuk menjayakan diri saya melalui demonstrasi jalanan diguna. Ianya memuncak apabila tersungkur daripada jawatan Ahli Parlimen.

3. Budaya demonstrasi datang dari sini. Memang dalam keadaan terlalu tersepit dan tidak ada cara lain untuk memperjuangkan sesuatu, demonstrasi jalan terpaksa diadakan. Demikian lah semasa melawan Gerakan & DAP, orang semua orang Melayu (sebenarnya, "penyangak kroni" lah - yang saya cakap "Melayu" tu drama aje) berdemonstrasi.

4. Tetapi jika ada cara lain terbuka luas demonstrasi tidak sepatutnya menjadi pilihan. Malangnya di Malaysia, kerajaan BN kita memang bebal - buta dan pekak, dan tidak mahu dengar suara rakyat yang berarak secara aman.

5. Akhirnya, orang yang menjadi mangsa bukan Kerajaan sahaja. Yang jadi mangsa ialah peniaga, terutama peniaga kecil yang kais pagi makan pagi, kais petang makan petang. Bagi mereka ini, polis mengamuk adalah mala petaka yang lebih buruk daripada hujan lebat. Apabila seperti anjing, mereka sudah disiapkan untuk menyerang dan menggigit tak mengira mangsa, itulah kerja dia yang akan dibuat. Kerugian sehari tidak dapat ditampung dengan keuntungan 10 hari atau lebih.

6. Peniaga lain juga akan tanggung kerugian. Tetapi kerugian yang terbesar ialah pembangunan negara untuk rakyat, dan persefahaman diantara mereka. Kita sedar bahawa persefahaman dan kepercayaan membawa banyak nikmat kepada seluruh rakyat. Banding sahaja pendapatan per kapita sebelum Malaysia dibangun dengan selepas kemajuan dicapai.

7. Apabila polis mengamuk dijalanan, pelabur samada tempatan atau asing akan curiga untuk melabur. Dengan itu peluang untuk kontraktor, pembekal barangan, khidmat pengangkutan, pekerja dan penjual makanan untuk pekerja - semua peluang ini akan hapus.

8. Polis terpaksa ambil tindakan. Tetapi polis kita yang bebal tidak ingin mejaga keamanan, malah mengadakan kekecohan dengan memancut air kimia, menembak gas pemedih mata dan menggunakan belantan. Kegunaan cara keras ini biasanya diumpan oleh pendemonstrasi. Imej polis dan negara memang buruk. Ini sangat menggembirakan BN, kerana ceritanya kepada rakyat adalah bahawa perarakan aman itu menjadi rusuhan.
Malaysia memang adalah tidak demokratik, zalim, tidak ada kebebasan bagi rakyat, dan lain-lain. Polis mengamuk bukan untuk mengugut rakyat sahaja tetapi untuk tunjuk kepada dunia betapa bebalnya kerajaan sendiri. Secara tidak langsung tujuan polis mengamuki ialah supaya dianya memerintah Negara ini. Na'uzubillah.

9. Ada negara-negara di mana polis/tentera mengamuk kerap-kerap diadakan. Di rantau ini pun ada. Apakah negara-negara ini berjaya?

10. Demokrasi mengizinkan demonstrasi. Samada corak demokrasi itu menguntungkan pengamal bergantung kepada pengamal. Jika pengamal tidak faham cara mengguna demokrasi, kebaikan dan keuntungan tidak akan tercapai. Yang penting, saya yang untung - rakyat, kita peduli apa - mereka boleh kerja overtime macam kerbau .... "dalam keadaan aman damai".

11. Ada orang di seberang yang amat gembira apabila kita tidak dapat bangunkan Malaysia. Nama negara mereka adalah seperti Zimbabwe, Myanmar dan lain-lain yang menjadi sahabat karib si mamak tua seperti apanama .... entah - saya pun sengaja terlupa.

1. I would like to thank everyone for the comments on the above.

2. Of course I don't like comments, unless they carry my balls. Anyone who says he likes criticism must be a hypocrite.

3. I admit that ever since I became Minister of Education, through my period as Deputy Prime Minister and then as Prime Minister I committed a lot of mistakes. I would not be monster and a jerk-off if I did not. Come what may, I have learned that I can never admit them publicly, lest the unthinking hordes who worship me get disillusioned.
The idea is to boggle their minds and make them stupid. Now that's real education!

4. I am sure my critics also made mistakes in their lifetime. The only difference is that their mistakes affected only themselves - because they are a bunch nobodies, not worth my spit. But if they get the chance to be PM maybe they will make the same mistakes I made.
And we all will suffer - only thing is, I believe nobody suffered when I made them.
Even if they did, who cares!

5. Now we are seeing the former opposition parties forming Governments in several States. They were before very critical of Government mistakes. Now they seem to be making mistakes too - thanks to our sabotage.
So with the help of our state machinery, we must light even more bush fires and prod them to make more mistakes, so that the people suffer even more and these governments can be brought down.
In worst case scenarios, we can always throw them out of windows so that they learn to fly ......

6. Malaysians will have a tough time in the next general election.
They may not like Beruk Nasional which for 50 years have been throwing tens of thousands into detention under the Internal Security Act, wasting public money building towers, airports, ports, highways etc, muzzling the Press etc etc. But they will definitely, surely find the so-called alternative coalition not much better. Nobody can do much better than me or my hordes.
So, my logic is, they shouldn't choose what is a little better, and what's worse has to be better -who cares if that make sense. Bottomline is, everybody has to be muzzled, so that they think they have a perfect and strong government.

7. Really Malaysia is a most fortunate country. It still survives despite all the odds.
It has experienced misrule and plunder ever since May 13 when my star started shining - until I left office. But my glory years were definitely the best. Now the new government takes the blame, and is banging balls because of me. And it looks like it will continue to be misruled (my way) if Jr. can ride to the top - on my money.

8. Maybe my stepping down was a mistake also. How much better we would be under Mamak rule. Every serious contender would be detained under the ISA. Everyone, Racists, gangsters, pirates, butt-gropers, C4 experts, Toyols and thieves included, would be able ot (sic!) speak their minds and contest in elections. Someone should be blamed for making me step down.

Horror of horrors – BN government wants to put up Internet filter blocking “undesirable websites” in total violation of the MSC guarantee of no internet censorship!
Rais’ Ministry had initiated a tender exercise calling for companies to put proposals to assist the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) evaluate an Internet filter.

The Malaysian Insider reported that the tender documents require the tenderer to:

• evaluate the readiness and feasibility for the implementation of Internet filter at Internet gateway level, through assessments on the existing infrastructure and existing products in the market.
• evaluate and estimate costs for the implementation.
• study the existing legal framework in addressing content filtering and no censorship issue, including the impacts that are caused by the implementation to Internet users and the Malaysian economy.
